I didn't say I did. I said we had a pick in the range that he was projected to be drafted in. Just like you my opinion is a complete guess.

your entire post was questioning why we would take him at pick 26 if he is forecast to go at pick 50+ because someone wrote an article with their assessment of the player at pick 50+. despite there being other articles that had him much higher.

my point is you have no idea where the clubs had him placed apart from the saints, so any questionning of why we took him higher is unfounded.

we went best available. didn't worry about position.

A 194 cm bloke who could be sh*t or a complete beast

Maybe hoping to have two Josh Battle types interchanging Wing/Forward/Defence as needed?

Yeah that's right, what I didn't say is that I knew clubs would come after him before that pick.

Yes we went best available, that is not my point.

Probably because we don’t have any developing behind Winx, Skunk & Battle

FMD, imagine being recruited to develop into a replacement for a 20 or 21 year old.

Reckon we'll land O'Driscoll or Ford at our next pick and we'll just have to do the old Ben Long / Josh Battle mental switcheroo.

gives us some flexability. we all hope this kid comes on. if he does he really opens up some options for ratts

Well let’s be honest. We don’t know that at all. It maybe all about the position he plays. I hope so at that pick.

If ever there was a year to take a punt on a boom or bust type, this is the one. No point trading down to get him later since we made it clear we needed a first round draft pick for the AFL's rules, rather than chasing a specific player. Best case scenario he ends up as a terrific third key forward to complement King (and King), worst case scenario he's Spencer White.

So we delist a CHF and draft one because of a 2cm difference. LOL.

they're not related

Mayo was delisted because he did an ACL, with reduced list size you can't be punting on a guy who's going to have to go through ACL rehab, after being ranked less favourably than your last placed rookie

i'm a big fan of Mayo but i understand the clubs thinking around delisting him and i think a guy ranked 26th in his draft is more highly thought of than a guy who couldn't find a rookie spot

PICK 21: RICHMOND – MATT ALLISON

Clubs: Calder Cannons/Vic Metro

Position: Key Forward

Size: 194cm/81kg

Bio: Allison is one of the top talls who has a stack of scope for improvement. He can get up and down the ground using his strong endurance base, which is also matched by a good acceleration when on a lead. He has been used as a midfielder on the outside at times and still has untapped potential there if a club think they can develop him further. He is very raw and his numbers in the NAB League suggest that, but there are plenty of clubs tracking the Victorian.

In the mix: Richmond’s pick is one of the hardest in the first round to predict given they have no pressing needs. They have been linked with a few of the taller prospects in Allison and Liam Kolar from Northern Knights. It might be a touch early for either, but given the age profile of the Tigers another young forward wouldn’t be the worst option. Don’t rule the Tigers out of trading the selection into the second round or into 2021.

PICK 22: MELBOURNE – BRAYDEN COOK

Clubs: South Adelaide/South Australia

Position: Medium Forward

Size: 189cm/82kg

Bio: A real bolter in recent months, with Cook having a number of outstanding efforts for South Adelaide. While he has booted multiple bags of goals this season, he likely has a future in a role similar to the one Richmond’s Kamdyn McIntosh playing on the outside. He covers the ground well and his extra versatility will make him appeal to clubs in the first round.

In the mix: Melbourne would love to bolster its outside midfield mix and across half forward. Cook is one who fits that bill as does Conor Stone – however he appears likely to be long gone.

PICK 23: MELBOURNE – JACK CARROLL

Clubs: East Fremantle/Western Australia

Position: Midfielder

Size: 187cm/79kg

Bio: The 17-year-old can play a number of different roles given his feats playing across half back and in the midfield over recent years. After a full season of WAFL Colts footy, Carroll has lifted his prospects and averaged 23.1 disposals, using it reasonably well off his left boot. He also averaged 14.6 contested possessions, indicating he isn’t afraid to win his own ball.

In the mix: Most of the midfielders around Melbourne’s selections are more inside types, but Carroll’s point of difference given his versatility might be too hard to pass. Sydney’s Errol Gulden could receive a bid here.

PICK 24: GWS GIANTS – LUKE PEDLAR

Clubs: Glenelg/South Australia

Position: Midfielder

Size: 183cm/80kg

Bio: Pedlar is one of the stronger contested bulls in the draft pool. He has power that many other prospects don’t have, willing to fight hard to win the ball for his side. He averaged 5.3 tackles in the SANFL U18s this year and averaged 21.8 disposals. He still has some work to do on his finishing with ball in hand, but Pedlar’s key role is the win the ball from the stoppages and get it moving to goal.

In the mix: Pedlar gives something GWS don’t have in their 2020 draft mix, given his tough and bash and crash approach. It would be a surprise to see this pick move in the draft, either giving the chance for the Giants to move up or into the 2021 draft. Collingwood might be a club making some strong offers to the Giants.

PICK 25: ST KILDA – NATHAN O’DRISCOLL

Clubs: Perth/Western Australia

Position: Midfielder

Size: 187cm/78kg

Bio: The 18-year-old is a bigger frame that is made for the centre of the ground. He has a long kick and bashes his way through the contest, averaging 6.7 tackles and 16 disposals in the Under 18 Championships last year. His work at WAFL level this year has impressed AFL club recruiters and he has shown a good ability to rack up the disposals.

In the mix: If Carroll gets through, he might be the club’s best option to bolster the midfield mix at the club. Northern Knights key back Liam Kolar has been spoken about as a possible pick in the 20s.

We would have been able to get a questionable, developing tall that no one has heard of with our late pick.

Seems strange to use a first round on when and pass on some highly rated mids.

Ah the old ‘we would have able to’ argument.

Maybe he goes at pick 27.

Maybe the highly rated mids weren’t that highly rated.
