This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

If we brought in Phillips and moved Acres to the middle, it works almost definitely end Blakely at Freo. I wouldn’t complain. There are a few clubs who might be interested for a pick (or combo worth) late 40s - mid 50s.
Acres has shown to be a good outside mid, but not an inside mid. He has been played there a number of times, purely because he is a big, strapping lad. Let's keep him outside. We saw how good he was at that, late in the season

I really don't see the value of bringing in fringe players this year when the list sizes are getting cut back. The likely scenario is they play for two to three years before we look to replace again (risk outweighs the reward).

I see the best 22 that we played against the Demons late in the season as pretty stable and competitive. From that best 22 I would hope that we're adding Pearce, Logue, Henry, Sturt, Tucker and Young next year.

That's six players that need to make way from a strong best 22. I can make a case for Crowden, Duman and Shultz but then I hit a brick wall. Additionally, at points of next season I hope we get to see Hamling, Valente, pick 10 and Western/Walker play.

We don't have the list space to bring in a fringe type unless Blakely is moved on. If we can pick up a pacy winger and ruck/forward in the draft alongside Western and Walker, I think we're in good shape.

I can see us having cap problems next year. Lobb, Blakely, Hogan overpaid, we traded in Acres and Aish while contracted so have to take whatever salary their clubs were paying them and unlike Carlton, our first round picks are good so you have to pay em 500k.

Even Hamling and Pearce are probably overpaid for games actually played

These names/contracts are nothing compared to the mob up the road. There are absolutely zero excuses when WC manage to pay McGovern, Darling, Shuey, Gaff, Yeo, Kelly, Naitanui, Hurn, Sheppard, Kennedy. Many have only recently negotiated monster contracts and the others would still be on good coin. Whatever they are doing, whether it is dodgy or not, we should be doing the same.

Phillips’ kicking is way better than Langdon’s. I reall watching another horror late season Langdon performance for Melbourne - lost them the match!
Langdon is a far better player, hence why he's finished top 10 in the last 3 b&f's at two different clubs. Pretty sure he finished 4th this season.

Average kick yes, very good at everything else, like two way running, pressure, tackling etc.....hence why both Fremantle and Melbourne absolutely love him.

He's such a whipping boy on here, no one is allowed to mention his name on here without cheap shots. Langdon is a far better player Phillips, hence why ones being shopped around (again). But hey, how dare I speak highly of Langdon right?

I agree, but someone (can’t remember who) suggested bringing Phillips in and putting Acres on the inside. Seems decent in theory, because as you said, he’s a tall big bodied mid. But he’s an outside mid, so unless he does go in there, Bri hung in Phillips would be superfluous. Nobody wants to go to a new club to be a depth player, so why would he come anyway.
But I guess my main point was that positional moves like that would push Blakely even further down the pecking order, and quite likely out the door. I think there would be a few suitors (NM, Ess for example) for a 3rd round pick. IMO, it seems he is one of those guys who could do with a fresh start.

Fyfe 1 million
Lobb 700k
Hogan 600k
Walters 6-700k
Cerra, Brayshaw - 4-500k
Serong, Young, Henry - 4-500k in 2021

12 million Salary cap

Surely we can't be close, and hopefully we are just waiting to see the salary cap for next year.

I agree but neither can get a game at Geelong and there has been talk Narkle may be delisted for nothing, so it’s really pick 28 and Blakely (who Geelong are apparently interested in) for Clarke which I also thing is a steal, but Geelong aren’t playing him so it’s a chance. I just how Geelibv get through to the GF them lose so they keep all their old guys thinking that will have one more crack next year and squeeze out the young guys like Clarke.

Missing a few players there
Hamling
Aish
Pearce
Wilson
- 3 of them would've been offered half decent money to come here (regardless of where they're from)
Mundy would still be on decent money

Serong, Young and Henry's payrises won't kick in till 2022.

Seems impossible to believe. Our list management would be worse than Collingwood.

Don't we have the second youngest list in the comp? We should have a money chest like Carlton.
How much are we be paying Lobb, Aish, Conca, Hogan, Wilson, Colyer and Acres? If we have a problem I reckon that is where it is. Overpaying mid-tier, mid-career players we have enticed into the club from elsewhere.

Guys like Lobb, Aish, and Hogan (at least) were on significant pay at their previous clubs and that is one of the reason they were so easy to get. Their clubs didn't really want to fight hard to keep their salary on the books..

Freo supporter paranoia. Things seem on the up, look for something to worry about.

We don’t have a problem. The report was that we have salary set aside for a player not yet on our list.
Media trolls have taken the narrow view of that and decided that we have a problem, because Mundy doesn’t have a contract yet.
Nothing to see hear, let’s move on.

Hmm, could that potentially be Gus Brayshaw?
