This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

I am struggling to see how trade week is even possible without clubs knowing list sizes for next year.

Some clubs have too many players contracted, most have players uncontracted which shouldn’t be in normal circumstances.

It’s a mess. Hurry the **** up AFL.
It’s an absolute joke. Amateur hour from Gill and the lads. News today that Stef Martin from Brisbane potentially getting delisted purely due to this problem. Not good enough.

The AFLPA have to agree to the list sizes so they would presumably be to blame for the delay as well

This.

The AFL have a number and AFLPA have theirs, now they’re both waiting to see which one blinks first.

Both are to blame for the delay.

It's ironic that the AFLPA are holding out for bigger list sizes yet causing a lot of uncertainty and distress to players in the process. Surely both the AFLPA and AFL can agree and confirm this week.

On the Cripps stuff

Tbf on 6PR haggers and his boys seem pretty adamant he is coming home this year or next (more likely next).

Wants to finish his career in WA is the reasoning there.

Take it with a grain a salt, if he doesn’t resign by the start of next season however that is a likely indication that he is considering it so just have to wait and see

Also if he actually does wanna come back plz don’t choose West Coast.. rather him stay at blues

The Cripps stuff is just win-win for 6PR.

If he doesn't come home its our fault we couldn't get the deal done.
If he comes home and chooses WCE its our fault that WCE is the favoured destination.
If he comes home and chooses us it simply because WCE have no money and the negative nellies will be all "we will have to sacrifice Mundy to afford him" and "watch this space" about whether it will work out, etc

Its just slam dunk content for them

What’s his true value? Realistically.
For mine ... I would want a top 12 pick and absolutely under no condition would I be subsidising his salary.

I would much rather he plays out his contract and his last year is meh than let him go for a bag of chips. There is more chance of him offering us something on-field than whatever we get from a late pick.

Absolutely stuff all. People are dreaming if they think we are going to get any more than a second or third round pick for Hogan. It’s obviously quite clear that the club just want to move him on and cut their losses to clear some salary cap and list space. If they wanted him at the club they would have come out and said something, or his manager would have come out and put his foot down. The only way I see Hogan at the club next year is if no other club Is willing to take him on.

Personally think he is worth far more to us than what anyone would be willing to pay. But that’s an outsiders view based only on what we’ve been told by the club in regards to his two years here.

But if the rest of the playing group are not happy with him there & his actions & behaviour are going against everything JLo is preaching to the players re developing a new culture, then I’d hope for a pick in the late 20’s, early 30’s, but we may take whatever is presented to move him on.

I guess we’ll know when they have their ‘official’ meeting, but I think the club will be very delicate with their wording, taking into consideration Jesse’s past & his future.

The statement I’d like to see ‘Discussions between Jesse & the FFC have been extremely positive with both player & club committing to next season. Jesse is committed to get back to his best & the FFC will give Jesse every opportunity to realise that goal’

Probably not though.

Anyone hear Stephen silvagni interviewed on 6pr re cripps? Mate reckons he was really unsure what to say, but eventually came out with “I think he will come home next year if blues don’t make the 8”. Mate said it was like he knew a lot more. prpl_jss
That might've been them playing a clip from trade radio, which is where I heard it. They were talking about pre-agents and Cripps being one they asked Silvagni. Wasn't totally definitive at all and definitely a sense of the door being ajar.

If the bolded part is true he must be traded whatever the cost. Nobody knows for sure only the club and Jesse though. I hope it’s not true, but at this stage, if I was a betting man, it’s more likely that is is, based on what we have seen and heard.

I wonder whether all this cap clearing frenzy is with an eye on a bigger fish.

Hagdorn seems totally obsessed with running an agenda that we have bigger salary cap issues than the Magpies and West Coast put together.

I’ve always felt the real run at Cripps is when he is out of contract as a free agent in 2021.

I heard it, but I thought Silvagni said he wasn't sure if Cripps would eventually go back to WA to finish his career.

Won’t be getting top 12 unless a miracle happens. That’s why I thought - Richmond can afford to pay; pick 28 for picks 19 and 32 = about 21/22. It’s also another first round pick before and band 2 compo is allocated. This would be an excellent outcome imo, all things considered.

I was saying to my son’s mate (who rucked against Jesse in the age level before colts and said it was terrifying because he was just on another a complete different level to anyone else out there - and also played colts with Blake Acres who he says is a bully and a knob... but I digress) the other day that he’s more valuable to us next year that taking bugger all now, and him turning it around next year. If he’s crap again next year, then we gave it a shot, it didn’t work out, we cut our losses and move on.

I 100% want him at a Freo next year. He’s untapped potential still, has had his issues (mental, physical, behavioural) but could still come good. If someone comes with a godfather offer to him, then we’re in a good place to bargain hard and get a good trade. If not - piss off.

Agree. Would love him to stay (🙏🏽), but if he goes (😢) I hope they only trade it it’s good for FFC. I would hope a late first at the least.

Do people feel that Melbourne regret surrounding Hogan with players like Sylvia and Watts when he was drafted?

Do people then feel that we may live to regret surrounding players like Young and Serong with leaders/players like Hogan?

I’m sure both Melbourne and Fremantle know far more than we ever will and for that reason I trust the decision the club makes.

I really want a fit a firing Hogan but I want a healthy player culture more.

I am truly gobsmacked that Norf aren’t interested in Blakely. Most of their list are under 22, they’ve just sacked their coach, delisted 11 players, are trading Ben Brown and Higgins is off to Geelong.

Who is going to want to go there, unless they are being squeezed out of their current club? Plus, I think Blakely is seriously kidding himself if he wants to force his way back into the 22. The only way he doesn’t leave us is if no one wants him. What is going on at North?

Blakley isn’t anywhere near the level he was in 2017 (pre-injuries), but he turns 25 right at the start of next season, he’s big bodied and at the very least could provide some protection to the young guys coming through.

spot on.....Blakely would go well at the Kangas, and they would not be disappointed.
