It is funny because Papley is far the better player for now, yet it's likely we wouldn't do this deal even for a straight swap.
Our need for a ruckman in the mould of De Koning is more important to us than to have a quality small forward which should be easier to find.
That's the way we should be looking at things from here on in; Don't look for better players.....just look for the right ones even at the draft.
Both Hately and Caldwell dropped again and both likely to be asking to be traded.
Given the depth of mids GWS already had and then knowing that Green was coming to them the year after, I didn't understand why they'd be stocking up on more inside midfielders in the 2018 draft when the likes of Butters, Clark, Duursma or Sturt who were much more suitable for them, were available.
GWS got it wrong. I trust we won't be making the same mistakes.
So true. I have been extremely confused by Gws drafting and list management decisions in recent years. They lose Wilson, Scully, Shiel who provided run and then keep drafting inside midfielders. they desperately need run and speed.
I had actually been worried Carlton were making the same mistake. The drafting of stocker and kemp was a bit at odds with what l thought we needed. Cripps, Setterfield , Kennedy and Dow could handle inside work. We needed skilful runners. Anyway l was a fan of kemp’s in u18 so wasn’t unhappy we picked him up.
