Pretty tame from Pakistan I thought. Like they were relying on the miracle balls with tennis ball bounce that got Stokes and Pope.

Woakes and Buttler really bullied them out of it, warning signs were there when they got to the 50 partnership at better than a run a ball.

Just too nice, every man and their dog knows you bounce Woakes and Broad. Yet the bowl Abbas 125kmph just putting it on a length outside off. When there is no swing he is no threatening to anyone with half an idea how to bat

Good test to watch , always felt England would win . They always seem to be able to win games like those against ok touring sides.

Thought the younger Paki quicks tired a bit and they lacked imagination against Woakes and Broad.

Sets up a nice series

This was a a terrific test match and it will also go down as an excellent win for for England. With the score at 117-5, I expected Pakistan to win but Chris Woakes deserves a ton of credit for his performance with the bat. Pakistan let a wonderful opportunity to win pass them by. If they put themselves in a winning position again in this series, hopefully they take that opportunity for victory.

Ben Stokes will play no further part in this test series due to unspecified family reasons. He is due to arrive in New Zealand later this week.

I think maybe the English thought given enough time he'd bring his short form game to test cricket in the way Andrew Symonds did for a bit, but it just hasn't happened and the chances of it happening now are pretty slim (potential egg on face here, but I just don't see it happening).
Only took a couple of days! ha!

But if were being honest, whilst Buttler certainly landed a blow on his critics, I think it's fair to say he still has a fair way to go to prove himself as a test level batsmen. But credit where it's due - a great innings to steer his team home and the whole test was a great advertisement for test cricket. It's a shame it was about 35 degrees here yesterday and I was suffering the after effects of about a dozen Friday night pints to fully appreciate it.

This is a very Australian post.

Over here, you can do that and get fairly reliably milked for runs all day, because our pitches have next to no sideways movement off the surface, and in the air the kookaburra doesn't move outside the first 5 overs or in very specific conditions. Over there, in England, the pitches are conducive to tiny variation in seam position causing otherwise identical balls to cut or bounce between identical deliveries.

We can deal with people like Abbas and (until his final tour here) Philander because the pitches don't give them anything at their pace. It's like calling Johnson a wayward scrub because his record in England is shithouse.

The ball was not swinging it all. Yeah if it went reverse you would understand the tactic but the ball didn’t do anything

There's not been crazy swing against or for the WIndies or in this test, but what there has been an abundance of is seam movement. I'll be honest, I didn't get to see as much of this test as I'd like, but your post read like an Australian criticism of what isn't a problem anywhere else but here.

Look he was great with the new ball but got no movement with the old ball. They had two blokes who could crank it up and they didn’t use them
