It may not have been as big an increase as we think from his current contract.

I don't know mate, but I do know people are running with this he "rejected" our fair offer, so fair enough he's gone etc etc.

Just doesn't make sense he'd reject that offer unless advised very poorly (possible considering his manager)

Agree on all that completely. If he goes North moves on and so be it.

However, this "3years over 750" being rejected is being given far too much airtime off nothing though BE. (imo)

He would have been crazy to reject that midyear at his age, injuries, and form.

For hypothetical sakes.
Would he have been crazy to accept it at the end of last year after the 3 good years and while North was throwing big money at opposition players over the years?

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Brown and Polec stay to be honest , i can’t see any other club paying Brown what he wants or wanting Polec’s contract but at the same time I really don’t see Brady giving them away for basically zero ... Interesting times .
Think Polec will stay but think Brown is gone.
Got to say I am so relived that there has not been one official word from the club. In the past we would have been doing all our negotiations via the media.

If the reported 3 x 750K was on offer and rejected, good on the club to say sorry Ben we ain't paying more so its time you search for another club. He is worth that and no more. Good luck to other clubs if they pay close to $800K over 4 + years. Club needs to now get a first rounder.

Easy. Both stay. Ditto BB if these ‘suitors’ don’t stump up with appropriate compensation

All just posturing at this stage.

With Polec it will depend on how much of his contract they are willing to absorb. If they want him on the list with North picking up the bill it would be their second-round pick at a minimum.

With Higgo I would expect we would need to sweeten the deal to unlock a first rounder. Could be something like Higgo and the Melbourne second rounder for one of their firsts. Maybe some subsidy of wages as well.

I agree with you if that is indeed the case. Very reasonable offer.

No drama at all.

Just feel too many are jumping on this as fact not pure speculation.

Well maybe so but the claim is mid year he rejected it. Huge difference with Covid, list issues, his form etc

Absolutely.
It was a hypothetical, but we could say Brown, at the end of last year he was worth 800k + ?
Whereas now, with all the listed reasonings.
He may have shot himself in the foot a little.
See, Goldy came to the end of his big contracts and blinded it this year. That's what brown didn't do.

Assuming he did reject this offer people are claiming he definitely has shot himself in the foot.

Totally agree.

I just don't necessarily agree what we are reading are facts rather pure speculation and clickbait.

All these clubs want to pillage our experience but don't want to pay for it:

Polec - " The Demons have shown some interest but are unlikely to part with more than a late draft pick to nab the speedster."

Higgins - " The Cats are interested in Higgins but won’t give up one of their three first-round draft picks for a man who turns 33 in March next year."

exactly better off keeping them if thry won't pay up

Agree on the Higgins part. One of their firsts with one of our seconds (we might end up with more than one) going back is fair given his age.

I think BBB knows that this will be his last contract and will be more interested in length of contract than dollars. Unfortunately timing has worked against him.
He has been a great servant to the club and I really feel disappointed that it is going to end this way.
His breakout game in the final against * will always be remembered.

Not sure about that, Brady doesn't strike me as the type to bother too much with media speculation, didn't at West Coast from what I saw but maybe some of our WA posters could confirm or correct me.

I just see tough negotiations going on and to be honest I think the club' initial and current offer is reasonable. The reported $750 x 3 years is fair considering his historical knee issues and unfortunately his form and recurring knee issues in 2020 has done him no favours.

I love Browny, he gives his all and while he can look awkward and gets pushed off the ball, on song he is tough to counter. I hope he stays but I understand why the club is holding firm.

Spot on with every point IMO.

Love to keep him, but I also see why they're holding firm. Clubs will either come to him with good offers (supporting his claims) and work out a reasonable trade or he will come back and make a deal that works out to mutual benefit.

I get it, but I also don't. If his body holds up he'll get more years and if it doesn't he won't be winning anything out of a team. For mine $3M over 3 years is better than $4M over 5 years.

Are we really gonna stress over losing a forward that couldn't shake Ben McEvoy? This bloke does not embody our brand, get a 1st rounder for Brown and we're laughing.
Im happy with the decision to let brown go

got to be ruthless in getting a solid young core together

Pay some of their salaries and watch the music change

Spot on! we have to face the very real fact that if we going to have to pay a majority of Polec's contract to see any real interest on a swap for a first-round pick, 50-60% would be my guess.

Higgo is a tough one, potentially package with a later pick? we don't really have and trade fodder anymore...

Brown will get to Collingwood, that I am very confident of, only real question is...how damaged are the goods we are giving them??

What odds that none of our senior players get traded and they all show up to pre season in 6 weeks time?
If I was running a book I would have this out come as favourite.

My take is:

Brown - we said this is the offer. You want to better it you can look and find a club willing to trade. Which is cool, but they'd need to do better than 1.5 over 3, mean ng they will need to pay for him and I doubt that part gets done. I also doubt he's getting 4 years at 800 or so.

Polec - clearly some ego in a bottom side and that didn't wash. We paid a premium and played the draft situation wrong. He's contracted so a trade would need to be alright for us to consider it. A late pick with us picking up the tab, I doubt it.

Higgins - required player, I mean he could actually be captain next year, ticks a he'll of a lot of boxes for it.

Who else?

Goldy? LOL he will sit second on our all time games record list. Second.

Cunners - we saw what without him looks like. We're not ready for more of that.

So the reality for me is that the internal value vs the market value on the players that are being bandied about has sizable gaps between them.

That's not to say they're not gettable it is more that to get them we're not going to be bent over.

Specifically on Brown I reckon his manager had tried on 'well we'll just go elsewhere'. And no where was lined up and no where is going to do what is required to get him.

On the other hand, If we start letting players go not much I'd be pretty disappointed.

At this point there is such a disconnect between what North fans think Brown is worth, and what the wider AFL community thinks he is worth.

Either way, someone is gonna be proven wrong. I bloody hope it's not us.

Wider AFL community thinks Daniher is worth multiple 1st rounders. Brown is better than Daniher.

We offered 3x750

Meaning a better deal would be more than that.

4x800

You can't have the above and not have significant trade value.

It doesn't work.

Exactly. Imagine if the scenario was...

“North are interested in Geelong veteran Joel Selwood, who is seen as the ideal player to mentor their exciting crop of youngsters. However the Kangaroos are unwilling to swap more than a 4th rounder for a player who will turn 33 during the 2021 season.”

Saad would like to get to Carlton overall but he isnt their primary focus. They have the cap space and are keen if gettable. Blues want a high profile mid. They want another a-grader next to Cripps.
If they trade for Saad itll cost them and with likely Zac Williams and Docherty at half back and Settefield - they are well placed for rebounders.
Been told theyre heavily into Ollie Wines should he want to return home to Victoria and potentially Merrett if hes out of favour at *.
I posted the above Monday night.

Today Damo comes out with this shit. Again Hi Damian. Can you **** off
