[TD valign="top"]North Melbourne is prepared to entertain a trade for Ben Brown as the club continues to reshape its list, GM football Brady Rawlings has confirmed.

“It’s not a decision we’ve made lightly as Ben has been a tremendous part of our club since 2014,” Rawlings told North Media.

It follows the club’s announcement that eleven other players would not be offered new contracts.

Rawlings said he and coach Rhyce Shaw spoke to Brown last Friday and explained the club’s position.

“It was a very honest discussion,” he said.

“Ben was very mature and understood our decision.

“We will work with Ben and his management to secure a mutually beneficial outcome.”

Rawlings knows not everyone will agree with the decisions being made, but said it’s imperative the club puts itself in a position to achieve a period of sustained on-field success.

“These recent changes can be difficult for everyone involved, including our members, but they have been made in the best interests of the club,” he said.

“We have a clear plan and pathway to lead this club back to finals as quickly as possible.

“We know our members will back us in and trust we are only interested in getting better across the board. We will use every avenue and mechanism available to achieve that.”

That is true, it will be on his head

Not meaning to sound like a w***er but unless you work inside the club and see everything they see, what would you, me or anyone know?

We don’t know sh*t. He isn’t leaving just because we couldn’t get a deal done, there has to be other factors. It’s a big decision

We got to take the risk

Agree but I haven't been part of the inner workings of the club for the last 2 decades and they sure as hell haven't made every post a winner along the way despite their privvy to strategic info.

Hopefully it's different this time.

My early tip is Sydney. They wanted Daniher and they are probably the leading SJW club in the AFL and that would suit Brown and his wife. Question is whether they would live there.
Isn't she like a civil marriage celebrant or something, would suit her perfectly up there, NTTIAWWT...

Why we would come out and announce this is bizarre?

Surely weakens our draft hand with opposition clubs saying ‘you don’t want him anyway, get stuffed you’re not getting that’

Anyway, I think we’ll be better off without Brown. This year highlighted his deficiencies. If it’s not served on a plate he struggles.

If we want to get a player in that can support Larkey reckon that we should trade for Peter Wright.

I still think that he has a bit to offer and may surprise.
