Is it? The way the media talks about top 5 picks these days, you better be damn sure they'll be a star or every media outlet in the country will say how you stuffed it up and the pressure builds on that player to deliver and the club for getting it wrong. There is a massive difference in how the media talks about players taken 1-5 to 6-10What a load of boloney, if we don't rate the player available at our 1st pick as being much better than those available after him it's good business if it means you can land a pick inside pick 10 still and add another later 1st round pick.
Can you say with 100% certainty the player we pick at pick 3 or 4 won't be elite?
If the top 10 is very even after the top 3, then I don't think any other club would be willing to give up 2 x top 10 picks for 1 top 10.
I like to see Callaghan in the mixIf we have pick 2 or 3 and trade down and get Roberts and Draper I'd be pretty happy.
No one can say for certain either wayCan you say with 100% certainty the player we pick at pick 3 or 4 won't be elite?
How so ??I reckon he has Jack Gunston written all over him, out after his first contract
No.Is this sarcasm?
Well, obviously. But no one would offer that.Depends where they are.
5 and 9 I would
Hmmmm Roberts and Draper perhaps ??Well, obviously. But no one would offer that.
3 for 6 and 12 is closer to what SOMEONE might offer.
No.
They reached for Doedee and they were right.
Gallucci was a bad call, but was about his draft ranking.
Jones and McHenry were both drafted about where they were forecast to go, as was McAsey. I'm not that worried about all three coming on, but fair enough if you consider them or Fogarty to be bad calls
First round picks in the last decade were:
Lever (excellent), Milera and Doedee (very good), Gallucci (terrible), Fogarty (good) plus Jones, McHenry and McAsey.
Most were pretty predictable.
The non first rounders are interesting. Schoenberg, Sholl, Butt, Keays, McPherson, ROB. I think there's some positives there.
Yes sir.Is Callaghan the lad who is a pr#@k relation to Beveridge and is his mentor ?
That's my feel too, hope to Christ I'm wrong if that's who we land on.I reckon he has Jack Gunston written all over him, out after his first contract
I think a lot of people on this forum believe we've had better picks than we actually have had.
A guy like Gallucci was a bust, but that's not unusual for a pick 15. Those sorts of picks don't guarantee elite talent.
In the last decade we've only had three top 10 picks, and only one in the top 5 (though we traded down from 4 to 6). In that zone for elite talent, that's not many attempts
Gawd there’s been quite a few injuries to top fancies. Put the COVID stuff on top of that and it sure muddies the waters for recruitersBeen out with foot soreness for a decent stretch now, not playing this arvo again for the Sandy Dragons in their game against the GWV Rebels.
Want to be very, very sure it's not going to be an ongoing thing similar to Ben Davis.

It would have to be of some concern to the club, they need to get it right. That's my feel too, hope to Christ I'm wrong if that's who we land on.
What reasons do you have to support this view?I reckon he has Jack Gunston written all over him, out after his first contract
And barracks for Mr. Beveridge's AFL team as well and seems him regularly socially.Vic Metro private school kid from an affluent suburb who has family ties to a coach at a Victorian club
