What a load of boloney, if we don't rate the player available at our 1st pick as being much better than those available after him it's good business if it means you can land a pick inside pick 10 still and add another later 1st round pick.
Is it? The way the media talks about top 5 picks these days, you better be damn sure they'll be a star or every media outlet in the country will say how you stuffed it up and the pressure builds on that player to deliver and the club for getting it wrong. There is a massive difference in how the media talks about players taken 1-5 to 6-10

Some fans are so sick of the media constantly shitting on the AFC or kicking us when we're down and to be fair some of it is deserved, the footy media world will kick their lips with joy if we have pick 3 and we pick a dud who doesn't live up to expectations. If we slide that pick 3 back yeah we get 2 first rounders but the pressure is released on weather or not those players become superstars

Like I'm an advocate for sliding back because as you said it's more valuable to us if the players in that range is equal, but if we hold pick 3 and use it and they don't turn into an elite match winning mid this place will go crazy.

Can we stop this talk about trading next years and this years for pick one. We would be the dumbest club ever to do that. If we trade a second and this years first, I’d be ok with it but next year we will want someone else that’s going to be a star. We have only ever had 3 pick under 5 in our existence and only used 1, why would we not use it and get a gun midfielder to develop.
we will be bottom 2 next year unless Tex has another good year. Let’s stay in reality not dreamland

Is this sarcasm?
No.

They reached for Doedee and they were right.

Gallucci was a bad call, but was about his draft ranking.

Jones and McHenry were both drafted about where they were forecast to go, as was McAsey. I'm not that worried about all three coming on, but fair enough if you consider them or Fogarty to be bad calls

First round picks in the last decade were:

Lever (excellent), Milera and Doedee (very good), Gallucci (terrible), Fogarty (good) plus Jones, McHenry and McAsey.

Most were pretty predictable.

The non first rounders are interesting. Schoenberg, Sholl, Butt, Keays, McPherson, ROB. I think there's some positives there.

I like to see Callaghan in the mix

Been out with foot soreness for a decent stretch now, not playing this arvo again for the Sandy Dragons in their game against the GWV Rebels.
Want to be very, very sure it's not going to be an ongoing thing similar to Ben Davis.

I think a lot of people on this forum believe we've had better picks than we actually have had.

A guy like Gallucci was a bust, but that's not unusual for a pick 15. Those sorts of picks don't guarantee elite talent.

In the last decade we've only had three top 10 picks, and only one in the top 5 (though we traded down from 4 to 6). In that zone for elite talent, that's not many attempts

McHenry cops this treatment also. Mchenry was not a top 5 pick.

Gawd there’s been quite a few injuries to top fancies. Put the COVID stuff on top of that and it sure muddies the waters for recruiters
