I think we need to be realistic about why GWS did that trade, though. They desperately wanted to get in early before a Green bid. By doing that, they got two first round talents in the one draft.

That's a very rare set of circumstances, though.

No. Once again, they did it because they just played in a grand final and expected a much lower value for their pick

Agree on Lyons

But the rest of your post is trash

Keays will finish top 4 in our BnF

On SM-G973F using BigFooty.com mobile app
Keays will be top 4 because our midfield is shit. He's like a dog chasing his own tail.

I'm not saying he's not full of effort. But that's all he is. Murphy puts in effort but he also doesn't have it.

Could Gold Coast possibly take Arlo before us? They like their South Aussies.
who cares if they do..

look at their midfield.. its chockers.. full of talented youngsters with more, including Hollands, still waiting for their turn..

the more mids from SA (or one’s that love the crows and have and SA connection like Hollands) the suns get the more likely in a year or two or three there is one or two of them stuck behind your Rowells and Andersons etc getting no opportunity, then asking to be traded and we can hopefully swoop in and grab them.

that being said.. a few days ago when we had pick 2 a fair few of us in here were saying that grabbing draper or Roberts etc at pick 2 was probably a reach.. and TBH thats probably true.. so I’d say the suns would think so aswell..

Why do you say that? There was only one decent pick in that lot, and Tippett cost us multiple early picks.
In 2012, we lost picks 20 and 54 - Tim Broomhead and Nick Graham. No-one knows who we would have taken, but as our recruiters are no better than anyone else we probably would have done something similar. We brought in Hartigan and Atkins and a few duds.
We also lost a pick for not trading Tippett who may have been worth pick 8-12 I'm guessing if Sydney could have engineered a trade up. That could have got us Nick Vlastuin or equally a Sam Mayes, Troy Menzel, Kristian Jaksch or Jessie Lonergan (Jo Daniher at 10 was F/S)

In 2013, we lost 8 and 30 - Luke McDonald and Trent Dumont. We traded in M Crouch for an ageing Bernie Vince, and brought in Eddie Betts and James Podsiadly - and there's good reason to think we pulled our finger out and tried harder in trades and free agents because of lost draft picks.

We also traded in Josh Jenkins for a 10 pick 3rd round downgrade in 2011, and Matt Rendell is on record saying that he was brought in because he knew of Tippett's imminent departure the next year. Josh was much maligned but probably had a better career than Tippett in the end.

So not good and we may have missed a star somewhere, but again maybe not.

I’ve jumped off the Roberts train and am now all aboard the Arlo Express.

Pick 4,5,6 whatever - just grab him.

NB I’m not a (draft) doctor and retain the right to dramatically change my mind.
The class will remain long after the price is forgotten.

Anyone else catch nicks in a pressor say we will be taking 3 picks in the national draft?

When I get a moment I'll see if I can find it. Its was the one that talked about us going after Maynard.

I reckon 2 second rounders will be evolved in a trade.
Collingwood cherry ripe for plucking, let's do it, and Dawson, and Stephens

2012 & 2013 were utter shizen drafts, so losing picks didn’t hurt that much

they were really bad drafts. So so bad

At that price, I'll keep matt and 4
In this Draft ....Pick 4 for Hopper ...where do I sign

You may ask for GWS 's 2nd round pick back .......would be a great deal

na, keays is trash. he was rightfully delisted.

we should still have jarryd lyons who is better in every way. our list management has been terrible.

We love to focus on the things Keays doesn't do but he compares quite favourably to Lyons in some facets of the game.
24yo in his 1st season as an out and out mid. (No tagging etc)
I'll give you that he lacks polish however he's 5 years younger than Lyons so time is still on his side.

5.7 score involvements (Elite)
6 tackles (Elite)
5.4 inside 50's (Elite)
2.6 centre clearances (Elite)
14.6 uncontested possessions (Elite)
6 tackles (Elite) 1 inside 50 tackle (Elite)
12 Goals rarely resting forward is nothing to sneeze at either. (Lyons 10 in a much better side)

Even though I was one of the first to suggest to trade him for a high pick from Gold Coast, I’d prefer to keep him . He’s a gut runner and can play other positions like half forward. I believe we will always have a place for him even if it’s not midfield

Totally agree.
Year before we picked him up, he kicked 43.19 in the NEAFL from 16 games, leading the Lions and finishing 3rd in the comp goal kicking. For a guy who isn't a noted aerialist, that is some effort and showed he was clearly above the level.
Next step for us is to find elite mids to push him to this role, where I think he's a significant upgrade on Murphy etc. Elite tank, elite endeavour with some goal sense and the right physical attributes for the role.

Agree.
I would like to see an experiment with playing him in a forward pocket. He's proven he can find the ball so roving off the tall guys might be an unexpected gift. But also, his run and tackle will add more pressure to the oppo as they try to exit their back 50. ATM, they do this with impunity. Our lack of forward pressure has seen us concede too many coast to coast goals by our Oppo.
We've played Berry and Ned in this sort of role but they're not yet able to greatly influence this position beyond tackling pressure. I think Keays might have this added ability.
This experiment will also open up some CBA opportunity to work with as well.
