There will be about 8 spots turned over but I wouldn't describe it as a "cleanout" this year. We need to free up list room for trade/draft targets (especially carrying two extra via mid-season draft) and several guys are going to be unlucky.

Remember when Polson got delisted and a lot of people lost their minds? It's going to be a lot worse this year.
Oh yep, that's what I was thinking. We still need to upgrade and as you say make room for newbies to strengthen that bottom 3rd of the list, and its only going to get done with a 'fan fave' or two getting knocked on the head. Is still needed though. It's been a slow process, I was thinking 8 or 9 will go end of this year as well. This place better brace itself for what's coming down the pipe!

I don’t know about bracing for it, I’m actually counting down the days !!
When all is said and done at the end of this year’s trade/draft period, the list should be absolutely primed and ready to go with only standard maintenance required for the next 6/7 years.

Fremantle supposedly interested in SPS.

Cerra would be nice but if it costs SPS and top 10 pick, even if we get something back, no thanks.

I hope we keep SPS and he re-signs for another 1-2 years, would be a mistake to let him go.

Presumably Cerra would want 750k+ etc.

I still think he'll re-sign with Fremantle, but interesting trade scenario if Cerra decides to leave and we're still keen at the end of the year.

Tidbits from Herald sun:

Trade him to Freo if it can help with our needs. Preservation won't help us right now.

Retire: Murphy, Betts, Casboult
Delistable: Boyd, Cottrell, Setterfield
Attempt to offload via trade or saved by contract situation: McGovern, Marchbank, Gibbons

I'd retain Newnes and Newman as reasonable cheap depth in their positions, although happy to offload if numbers require it.

Look to state leagues for best KPP options. There are definitely better options than Casboult and co out there for immediate assistance.

Newnes maybe (rather not), Newman no way. Retire Ed too.
I'd give Setterfield a chance. This year has been a disaster, but there's talent there. Hopefully a new coach can help him get back on track.

I’d be prepared to listen to offers for all of Docherty, Fisher, SPS, Plowman, McGovern and Setterfield.

I’d retire Murphy and Levi, assess Betts (who looks sore) and maybe Ed.

Delist Cottrell, Williamson, LoB and Pittonet if we can get an upgrade

I don't think scorched earth is the right path to take.

Agree that all three of Newnes, Newman and Gibbons are expendable. Newnes is the best of them. Okay with a 1 year deal/rookie year for Setterfield under new coaching staff.

Retiring Ed is interesting. If he's not tagging or playing inside mid, there's definitely no point having him. Spots should be available for others ready to play, such as Kemp, Honey, Ramsay, so in that sense I also agree.

No their not.
And our most pressing need is a Levi replacement and KPD depth.
I disagree that we don’t need more and better miss. Agree we need KPP depth, but we could do with a break on the injury front.
How many HBF and low possession mids can we carry?

No they're not.

We need more quality in the mid-field, Walsh is carrying us in this area, we have a early pick & lots of quality in the top 10 in this area.
Casboult has survived because Curnow has been out the last two years.
Richmond had been very successful with one ruckman, l don't see early selections for a Levi replacement, best available for early picks, draft for needs later.

I didn't say that we should use our first on a Levi replacement, just that a Levi replacement is a more pressing need (along with KPD depth) than midfielders.

tough viewing today...
Apart from Weitering, Jones, Walsh, McKay, Curnow..
Harsh reality is I think North have already built a better list than us, are better coached and have better team chemistry on field...

We have so many cracks and holes in our best 22, that is papered over by our blue coloured glasses and love of players...
We are 13th on the ladder because, that's about as good as our list and coaching group are... All caused by poor list and development choices...

We don't need a full list rebuild, because our core base is pretty solid, what we do need is a refresh of the list Essendon/ Sydney style

Below are the core group I see in their best positions... The bolded positions in my opinion are where our cracks and holes are in our best 22..
For us to be a true premiership contender, we need to be courageous and make some hard calls to fill these positions and create depth here and in KPP...

We can do this by current listed players actually stepping up, via trade or via draft..

We are not a top 8 team down on injury or luck, we are currently a bottom 8 team trying to make excuses..
Of course this is only my opinion, but I do hope the review helps turn our once great club around

On one hand I find it hard to name the 6+ players that we need to move on but on the other I think we have over a dozen who are lucky to be on a list.
Players like Cottrell, LOB, Setterfield, Williamson have teased and are young so I want to keep but if any were delisted FA’s off another list I’d be wanting our club to avoid. Our hand may be forced if other clubs come knocking with a decent deal but none should be offered more then a year on a low wage.
SPS should only be given a 2 year possibly $300k contract which probably opens up the possibility he leaves.
I actually don’t mind the trio of Newnes, Newman and Gibbo (which is funny because I was one of the very few who said Ellis is a better investment then Newnes now I’m one of the few who actually think he offers something) but I fully support the club in only offering any or all of them rookie contracts. If that frees up enough cash to gain someone like Chol for free (someone I don’t really rate at all but fills a need) I think you go for it.
We owe nothing to Marchbank so he is in the rookie or minimum wage boat too imo.
Curnow and Betts I’m not fussed either way.
Kennedy only needs a year on a low base wage.
Murphy and Cas are gone.
McDonald probably gets another year on base wage simply because of needs.
Boyd will be gone.

this could all change on the back of a couple of good games before the end of the season but atm we really have a lot of players who we could get rid of with only a low chance of it biting us on the bum. SPS is the one that I would hate to see leave the most but it also might be in his best interests

The Philp+Kemp over Weightman/Pickett decision could be one we look on in 3-5 years as the what the fu** moment.
This post could be one we look on in 3-5 minutes as the what the **** post.
