I am very happy that we have started clearing the decks, I am also happy the we have commenced shifting the culture.

Next steps are critical, I think we need: on field leadership, development coaching and improved game plan.

So I would go for:
1. Luke Parker
2. Brendan McCartney, despite his old school hard arsed approach, or maybe because of it.
3. Ross Lyon, no other choice IMHO.

I’d trade our 2022 1st, and SPS or Fisher. That’s a fair value for Adam Cerra especially if he nominates CFC and is an OOC player.
Freo can’t expect much more .
I’d trade McGovern for a Ruckman, MM was a bad trade for us, we exchange 2 x 2nd Rd picks ,for zilch in return.
Agree with the top line, but not Fisher thanks as injuries have held him back so I believe he deserves more time, and he has shown that he can play but Carlton tried to turn him into a forward pocket goal sneak whereas he is more suited to being a running player.

Why would Freo accept our 2021 First round pick which is likely to be outside the top ten ?

Our first round pick this year is fair/market value for Cerra, annoys me we have some supporters thinking we shouldn't give that up?

He was close to best on ground (for either team) when we played Freo at the G a couple of months, absolutely torched our midfield and did damage on the scoreboard.

2022, and being outside the top 10 is what we said last year too.

Riley Beverage on AFL.com said Dow still maybe traded... ARTICLE HERE

IMO if we ever were to move Dow on now would be the time...
His value would have to be similar to Cerra, same age, similar stats & potential upside...

Personally if Riley is correct I'd trade him, Richmond & Geelong have shown keen interest last year...

Richmond > Dow & 2022 Carlton's 3rd Rounder
Carlton > Richmond's First Rounder

Geelong > Dow & 2022 Carlton's 3rd Rounder
Carlton > Sam De Koning & Geelong's 2nd Rounder

You're dreaming. We would get a late 2nd rounder for Dow at best. Cerra worth much more then him.

We have invested too much time and years to trade Dow now, unless he desperately wants out.

Also Sam DeKoning is a local boy whom Geelonfgrate highly, doubt they would let him go.

Why would they not when no other club will offer them what they want?

Dow is contracted. If anyone wants a contracted player from us, they would need to make us very happy with a pick. We won't accept pick 40ish for him

Confused by the talk of giving up this years 1st and then reading people say we should add a player like sps or fisher to get it over the line.

Currently there's not a huge interest in Cerra and what really would any other club pay for him in picks?

Sometimes it's not about what a player may be worth, if a player wants out and chooses a club, for the team who is losing the player, its really about the best deal they can get.

No team is giving Freo a pick 10 and under. So in essence, why would we need to?

If freo are going to demand pick 6 or whatever it becomes and more, and there's no other suiters out there wanting to trade anywhere near that capital, the question remains, why should we?

I'm hearing Melbourne are interested but they won't have a pick under 10 either this year or next. I am expecting us to move up the ladder in 2022 so offer up our 2022 1st and call it a day. Freo id dare say wont get a better offer for Cerra than that and if they did, there's no certainty as of this year that its a better trade for them.

Cerra would be a great get, but he isn't worth pick 6 and a player like sps or fisher who we know have the potential to be very good players under a better coach. Especially when no one else would offer anywhere near that
Why don't we offer Cripps and ask for Cerra and their first rounder

The De Koning's are from Mt Martha on the Mornington Peninsula.
Played for Dandenong Stingrays.

How long are we going to keep saying this before we just cut our losses and move them on?

Completely agree - It should be our future 1st and that's it - you could argue that our 1st rounder next year would land somewhere in the vicinity of the 10 - 12 range, ( we should improve a few rungs I'd expect ) and I reckon that's fair. And I've posted before that using Sammy or Fish as steak knifes is tantamount to throwing them away for peanuts or less. If we trade Sammy I have this feeling it will come back to haunt us - just reckon he could thrive under a new coaching regime. But whatever we end up giving up I expect Cerra playing in the middle for us next season - just seems too much talk for him to be going anywhere else but us.

Yeah, but some people find it annoying that we give up pick 6 ( And a player! ) in a straight swap for Cerra. We all have our own ideas as to what the club should give up to get him. I'm personally in the next years' first only category, but that's just my opinion.

What’s happened to Sam Weideman ?

Good take.

The only leverage a club like Freo have, is if they can scare Cerra in to accepting a trade to another club, they aren’t going to let him walk to the draft and get nothing, this isn’t like GC letting Jack Martin walk, they were giving up a 2nd rounder, Freo would be throwing away pick 6.

We lose nothing if Freo push Cerra in to the draft and they get nothing, in the interest of good faith, I’d offer our 1st and 4th for Cerra and their 3rd, they will haggle and we settle on pick 6, anything more and I’d be shocked.

In saying that, I also don’t think I support this trading in good faith business, clubs can only deal with a club their player nominates, each time, they will push for the best deal, I’m not sure it will matter next time we deal with GC, that we got him in the PSD years earlier.
