He chose them because we weren't interested

Direct from the horse's mouth

“I did have some discussions with Matthew Nicks and the Crows,” Fantasia told SEN SA Breakfast.

“They didn’t see it fitting this year and that’s fine".

Port attract good/semi-good players from other clubs more than others do because they have a salary philosophy that allows them to do it. They pay through the nose to "lure" experienced recruits which leaves a big pay gap in their middle tier. Hence, a weak underbelly. When injuries hit they struggle.

I think it's good that they at least have a crack at actively trying to improve their list. It's also funny, because they get really excited for nothing, but still.

Stephen Wells has stepped down as list manager of Geelong. Andrew Mackie to take over.

Their salary cap management absolutely shits all over ours.

In saying that, that Dixon deal is going to end in disaster (as many of us said at the time).

Yep. Got us McAsey as well but I'm not sure that's anything to write home about.

The Lever traded is starting to look more in our favour now since we managed to turn one of the steak knives that got thrown in into Sholl. The final result of the trade ended up being:

Melbourne received: Jake Lever, Harrison Petty (who?) and James Jordon (who?)
Adelaide received: Darcy Fogarty, Fischer McAsey, Lachlan Sholl and Luke Pedlar.

Along the way, Melbourne also gave up pick 41 in the 2018 draft, and we gave up pick 65 in the 2019 draft (which itself was the steak knives from the McGovern trade)
SA tall Defender/Forward Harrison Petty was showing plenty in the back end of 2019 and never played at all in 2020 with a similar groin issue that eventually led to him having the same surgery that also cost Brad Crouch a year out of football. That's who!

Petty had shown enough for the Dees to quickly sign him up until the end of 2022, at this point he's shown a shedload more in his 11 AFL games than McAsey has in his 10 AFL games.

They troll us about Tex being 31 and still on our list, but they have Dixon signed until he's 33 and according to them it's great list management.

Let’s wait and see how they retain Butters Rozee Dursma when their contracts expire next year. Rowie asked Rozee if he’d be willing to take a pay cut for them to get Merrett. Fair Dinkum Rozee would be in the bottom half of players wages at that club. Others should be taking a pay cut to keep him.

Bit like how we lost our three best youngsters after 2017?

Peeerrrrlease ?!?!?!!?!?

Wells has been responsible for drafting many superstars to Kardinia Park in recent years, including premiership guns Joel Selwood, Jimmy Bartel, Steve Johnson, Corey Enright and Harry Taylor.
His work as the club's list boss has also clinched deals to secure superstars including Patrick Dangerfield, Jeremy Cameron and premiership hero Brad Ottens.
