It’s not even confirmed if Breust or Mitchell are going to miss and the threads already nosedived into “we won’t win a game”.

Come on you lot.

There are a few supporters here who specialise (maybe love?) in predicting the doom & gloom. Only takes a rumour for their heads to pop out and sing the negatives.

Looking forward to a fresh line up. Exciting times!

Happy New year.

Yeah even if there are a million injuries I like to be positive before a season starts anyway. Always get what you can out of the situation you are dealt with. If our team was as negative as some around here we would never win a game - seriously. This is the time to pump up our players - not to worry about falling in a heap. I think some set expectations low to help them get through a season. Why this needs to be done in a communal public doom quest ****s me.

Phillips was Collingwoods time trial King
Until last preseason when Rantall took the crown. Good luck for 2021 and hope Phillips kills it for you guys. Still can’t believe we let him go for basically nothing.

Where did the news Mitchell and bruest will miss games come from ?. On Mitchell's socials he's been posting pics of him running more then once .

Rumours on social platforms don't need a lot to spark. Good to hear he's up and running.

Looking forward to reports on first training session. Hopefully nobody has porked up over the silly season. I know I have a few sherbets to shake off the middle.

James Cousins is the one to watch. I think he’s set for a breakout year. He averaged a career high 19.5 disposals in just six games in 2020 despite the shortened quarters.

I liked what I saw from Cuz. He has gained a yard and that has made a huge difference. The problem will be how does he get a look in. Clarkson will select O'Meara over him forcing Cuz to a wing. It's a pity as Cuz is our only mid that looks like he can select a better option and open the game up.

It'll be interesting. He seemed to get a game because there was no one else. Then he played well enough to not be left out and then started to show some real promise.

I have always liked him and have wanted him to get games for a while. I hope he is in the side round 1 and not overlooked for clarko favourites provided he stays at the same level which I have no doubt he will. He has flaws but also he is a ball winner in space which balances out our midfield. He finds space and can craft goal assists too.

I'm not sold on Cousins. I can't see what he does that is elite.

Not enough tricks for me. Perhaps he could become a solid player, but don't think he will ever be an A-grader.

Maybe he just hasn't been given enough opportunity or big enough roles to show that.

i disagree, hes a really solid depth player.

Cousins is pretty comparable to Shiels with limited opportunity.
The guy doesn’t need to be elite he just has to be consistent at a high level and if that is stoppage work and and some breakaway POD then he gets a spot. He should absolutely be in the mix from end 1 and especially after Burgoyne gets to 400.
The decks need to be shuffled a bit IMO anyway with the midfield mix. I have always wanted to see Jom outside more, Wingard in the middle more and Mitchell rested on a forward flank.
I recon Cousins could get himself to a very solid B grade mid without elite attributes where as he could also go a step further with his commitment to the contest and a bigger tank which should be just about spot on this year. He use to blow up quicker that a water balloon... once you got it started that is.

Don't think anyone is pumping him up as a future A grader. Depth mid is his role.

He has some queries over disposal and decision making at times and tank but what we saw last year is really strong ball winning ability plus the ability to get to dangerous spots to receive the ball to counter attack. They are his strengths which are good fits with with our inside mids that struggle to spread. Throw a few more players in that can spread and I can see Cuz getting better as he has smarts.

What are people's thoughts on Dylan Moore.
Was close to BOG Vs Gold Coast and took the game on.
Thoughts?

Potential Sewell type.
Cuz provides solid midfield rotation. Our current mids can't go flat out for the entire game. Plus he has a knack of kicking a goal and/or assists.
The two things Cuz can consistently do is find the footy and kick goals.

He isn't an elite talent (he doen't have the athletic gifts to be elite) but based on the above two attributes he is best 22 for 2021.

I have mentioned before on this forum that one of our weaknesses as a side over the last three years is that Tom Mitchell aside our other midfielders have an alarming habit of pulling out a 10 to 15 disposal game on a semi regular basis which makes it very hard to consistently win games.

Consistency is going to be the key for Moore.
I agree, his GC game was elite, but I want to see him perform like that against more confident/higher rated teams.
I like him for his versatility, but I don't think he's nailed down a single position yet.
I think him and Cousins are the two players who can establish themselves as best 22 this year, and need to in a sense to justify their spot on our list.
Seeing pics of him he looks like a little tank so hopefully he can continue to develop an aggressive tackling game.

First time in 2019 noticed Cousins getting use to the pace of the game at AFL level. Previous years his decision making and disposal was too slow and he got tackled or was under pressure in getting away the kick/handball. You can get away with this in VFL but not AFL.

Hoping this improvement will pay dividends in the years to come for us!

His game against Port was very good, as was his first half against the scum. There's enough to work with to turn him into a solid contributor.
