Unless Patton is suspended, I can’t see Jeka playing at AFL level this year. Especially when you consider there being no VFL season last year. I hope I’m wrong.
I think regardless of Patton getting suspended or not for what's gone on there's a solid chance he'll get injured at one point or another. That being said a good season of VFL footy is probably what Jeka needs most.

It’s not even confirmed if Breust or Mitchell are going to miss and the threads already nosedived into “we won’t win a game”.

Come on you lot.
Does my head in.

So Tom Mitchell played all last season with a shoulder injury and didn't have surgery until the end of the season and may not be fit for round 1.

Surely the questions have to be asked? What on earth was our club doing with him and Gunston (who has some pain relief to get through games with a bad back).

Piss poor management.

Very deflating when you're trying to sell hope to fans and we could start the season very shorthanded, some if it seems was potentially preventable.

Although I do agree with your sentiment they may not have been able to get them into surgery with all the restrictions.

Early days but Brockman reminds me of Rhan Hooper. Really rated Hooper - was a gun small forward whose career was derailed prematurely by off field issues.

Calling it now - Brockman has all the necessary attributes to become a gun small forward, provides he has the desire, work rate and resilience- time will tell but I like what I see so far

Hamstrings were a huge part of his demise, weren't they?

In regards to Gunston they were treating his back concern with physical therapy which is usually the first thing they do with what he was going through. You can’t always just send off someone to surgery unless there is no other option so I don’t hold the club accountable with what has happened with him.

Not too sure on the timeline with Mitchell’s shoulder injury. Can’t remember but wasn’t he already operated on before the Crimmins Medal? Seems he probably should’ve been sent for surgery mid last season but maybe with him coming off the broken leg maybe it’s not what he and the club wanted to do. Missing the 12 months prior for him would’ve been hard for a footy nut like him but maybe the the smart call would’ve been to put the cue in the rack with 3-4 games left last year.

With gunston they probably thought they could manage it to the end of the season and it would settle down and recover with rest. It didn't so surgery was the only option.

Surgery happens so often these days but it really should be absolutely a last resort to cut somebody open.

Mitchell missing or otherwise being incumbered by injury in the immediate 2 years (and potentially longer due to the current rehab) after winning a Brownlow Medal in his prime years is the most rotten of luck. He's the type of player that his presence and performance, or lack thereof due to the recovery, has a direct impact on your finishing position.

If he can just get a clean, clear run at things then it could be huge for our fortunes.

Not saying anything.

Every time you compare a new player to another player...a fairy dies.

With Harley Bennell you get the upside and downside in one comparison.

They where but I seem to recall some personal issues had a bigger impact - may be wrong. Remember he was drafted by Brisbane originally and had a massive impact early on with them - can’t remember if he was delisted or trade to us?
He and Chubbs Peterson weren’t good for one another .....

Sadly hindsight has it that it has ended in a worst case scenario, needed surgery anyways and got it a later date.

On a positive note the exciting pre season news to me has been the physical transformation of Will Day from a boy to man. Looks more like a developing mid than a wirey flanker/wingman.

True but in Gunston’s case you have to wait till the worse case scenario before opting for surgery. As I mentioned earlier I’m not sure of the timeline around Mitchell’s injury. He supposedly hurt the shoulder in round 1 and were managing it all year but the severity was never mentioned so it’s hard to know what the club / player should or shouldn’t have done. The fact he played all year probably says that it was pretty minor and flared up towards the end of the season.

I guess we should wait till round 1 now to see if he plays and go from there.

The transformation so far is pretty amazing 😂
