This is a team I quite like the balance of - if I do end up starting the really expensive players like Lloyd, Neale, Gawn and Macrae, who are absolutely elite but might be well overpriced if shorter quarters really benefited them.

On the other hand, taking too many mid-priced punts can be just as bad, so currently this is the team I have. I've tried to ensure I have the rookies folk like at this early stage but it's so early it's basically irrelevant.

Nice team!

One thing - Docherty had surgery removing a malignant tumour last month, so I don't know how much of his pre-season has been affected at this stage (if at all).
If so there's plenty of options at his price. Witherden, Doedee, May etc

Yeah, I have considered Witherden but probably a year too early unless Hurn goes down. Hopefully Doc is okay but if not I did have Luke McDonald as a 4th defender with Preuss over Gawn, so if Doch isn't right I'd probably punt on McDonald. I'm hoping Doch recovers nicely and if he is fit, he has massive proven upside with the additional benefit that people might have been scared away by his whelming 2020.

So who's going to be taking the kickouts for WCE this year, Hurn...Witherden...both?

I'm not sure at the moment to be honest. I do think Witherden is going to be groomed to be Hurn's successor and has a lot of potential upside with our gamestyle and the dimensions of Optus giving Witho more space to work. If I had to guess, I'd say it'd probably be both.

OK so here is my team from earlier followed by a team no Gawndy.

You save 503k going down to NicNat and Prooose which upgraded Cunnington and Pedlar to Bont and Cripps.
NicNat averaged 30 less than Gawn and if Prooose averages 90 he drops 30 points to Grundy per week.
Bont and Cripps would average 60 more than Cunnington and Pedlar. You lose Pedlars cash gen but get some of it back on Prooose.
You still have to use two trades possibly more trying to get Gawndy in. But have two more midfield keepers.

Its almost a zero sum game.

Cant see Gawn averaging over 140 and if he averages 140 his price will come down maybe 50-70k.
One stinker from Gawn who has a great early draw and you win but gotta be ready to pounce.

All too hard. Set and forget. Im still going to play around with a few no Gawndy teams though in case theres a 2020 induced rookie shortage.

*Could also bring in Danger/Dunkley FWD instead of Bont and have one less FWD rookie

That midfield in your second team is epic.

Hate to say it, but I think Nicnat is over-priced. 2020 was perfect for a guy who has a limited tank and sure enough he was the AA ruckman. With the return to 20 min quarters, his 50 min supply of go-go beans will not be enough. His average will fall I reckon

Personally I'm expecting I'll go with Grundy but not Gawn. Gawn's price is just ridiculous, Grundy on the other hand is arguably underpriced if anything.

Relative to Gawn's, it is, relative to what he actually produced this year, it definitely isn't, relative to what you'd expect from him next year, it's about right IMO

Managed to come up with this after a proper session of teambuilding. Thoughts?View attachment 1033637

Pros:
12 keepers
Most of the premo's coming off very good seasons
plenty of VC & C options

Cons:
Almost 30% of the cap on just 4 players is overkill.
Hately is too speculative a starting pick for mine and Preuss has a difficult early draw & unproven as a #1 ruck.
17 first year rookies being named for Rd1 is unlikely this year.
