This all sounds fantastic but from what I’m gathering we are 1 of about half a dozen clubs that have shown keen interest in Merrett.

Sounds far from a done deal to me.

Everyone had wines playing for another club this year 12 months ago so a lot can change, and plenty more to play out.

I’m not going to count my chickens before they hatch.

Tredders has just confirmed Port are after Merrett, have offered a big deal, have the space, and talked about where the extra space is coming from, underspends and older stars coming to the end of their contracts, then mentions a potential for a big front end loading to get over Essendon playing the RFA card.

Pardon the intrusion. Essendon have money to burn this offseason, I’d be very surprised if there was any deal Port could offer that we couldn’t match. Nothing could be ruled out of course but unless we finished last and get pick 2 as compo I’d say we’d be matching any offer.

If we show no signs of improvement this year I can’t blame him looking elsewhere. Zac is the ultimate professional who craves success, if he doesn’t see that at Essendon I’d say he’s out the door. You boys are smack bang in the window so I can see why there would be mutual interest.

You wont get some stupid trade for him. He will be a free agent based on a contract structured in a way that you cant fit him in your books or we wont sign him.
