plus keeping a spot free for MSD
Seems to be an unintended consequence of the MSD - potentially, fewer kids getting a chance as rookies

Except he is not a Cat B rookie as he was delisted.
He and Cian McBride were granted special dispensation to rejoin the Cat B list if they made it through the ND

Think they need a couple of days between the Rookie draft and the main one, just get all the elevations and nominations sorted etc and let the public know what picks are available before starting it. Whole thing seems disjointed and rushed

The entire Draft has degenerated into a media circus so why should the supplementary drafts be any different? If we are honest the entire draft process could be finalised with in a single day but of course that would deny the AFL's broadcast partner the opportunity to spin the advertising revenue out over 2 nights. Two nights of those FOXTEL airheads spouting meaningless shite was hard to take.

What advertising revenue? They flog the hell out of the advertising on trade radio, but I was watching the draft via Kayo/Foxtel and they only had a short ad break at the end of each round, it wasn't annoying at all.

Rookie elevations went for an hour last night at 10pm, after the draft finished. There was also a delisted free agency period that ran at the same time.

If any of the clubs did elevations the AFL will send a tweet or media release or whatever to confirm it sometime today, which is how they usually do it in past years. There’s no fanfare for a rookie elevation or DFA signing.

Not sure what you mean by nominations.

Most years there are no picks in the PSD, so the AFL just puts out a statement that the preseason draft will not be held. It only really exists as a last resort for failed trades and for arse covering purposes if they get sued for restraint of trade.

Clubs don’t want to do the extra list lodgement in order to participate in the PSD and they might as well use the spot in the SSP instead if they have the option, as the players can train with them over the summer, they get more time to choose the best fit and the players get a chance to prove themselves where there are question marks.

Rather than disjointed and rushed it actually seems needlessly long and spread out over ten weeks for no apparent reason.
Suns used PSD last year with Thompson to bring him back to senior list after de-listing him to fulfil 3 draft selections to senior list. They also planned to do the same with Greenwood before he signed with North after de-listing. At the end, Suns drafted Andrew, Constable and Thompson.

No club participating in PSD today according to Twomey.
Yeah, Essendon obviously promoted someone and not said anything about it

I’ll be very surprised if the Dogs don’t rookie Lachie Sullivan off our VFL list
Yeah, we seem to be looking to add a defensive midfielder to the list. I still think we need a rookie ruck though
