Exactly. Let’s move on mate.

Players can slide for multiple reasons, mostly never footy related, just like Jack Darling, Sydney Stack, etc

Gone are the days where players are selected purely on footy talent, lots of research is conducted on character and off field behaviour

Huge call incoming:

Oliver Hollands is a right footed clone of Kade Simpson.

Get.

Looks like Hollands will be gone by our pick…….well he should be with all the hype.

For what little it’s worth, I like Hewett BUT my preferred option is to trade back and get some big man depth. I’d be comfortable with 10/29 to COLL for 16/25/27. Use our F2 to upgrade 25 to early 20’s. Hayes and Barnett would be my preferred……and I also love the idea of George (I see DeGoey or Greene potential). Szybkowski intrigues me also, meat and potatoes big bull mid allowing Cripps to go forward more. Van Es later could be fruitful too.

Edit - Hustwaite has some intrigue also. Good user and is big. Cripps big.

Not sure we need x-factor.

What we need is a good kick of the football who has some pace and a decent tank, who is able insert themselves into the play and is not a defensive liability...maybe I’m describing x-factor here?

This is why I’m in the McKenzie camp.
I agree with the type of player you are describing

However wouldn't that be more in the 2nd to 3rd round range.

IMO pick 10 is x factor, point of difference territory.

There are flight concerns with Phillipou, but with Hewett, it's other factors as to why he could slide
Phillipou has probably more chance of experiencing AFL games sooner with Carlton (due to his forward abilities) than another inside mid stuck at the end of the queue playing VFL behind Carroll, Dow, even Kemp? etc.
There seems to be an even choice of talent after the first 4 or 5 picks in this draft, attitude is a major factor.

Picking Hollands for need is not necessarily the wrong decision. There will always be an opportunity cost, missing out on Mckenzie etc. He just looks a 150 game lock in a position(s) we do not have covered.

Could someone compare Hollands to Camporeale in 1995

Adding the sixth or seventh best TAC midfielder isn’t going to drastically improve our transition game.

My observation was actually that Hollands minor point of difference at junior level is going to be obsolete.

Adding Acres and putting another pre-season into Carroll is enough for next season IMO. I’m sure I have asked the question before, but how often do specialist wingman get taken in the Top 10? Most actually get taken with later picks - Langdon, Hunter, Amon etc, or move to a purely outside role to fit team requirements eg Walsh, McCluggage, Brayshaw.
You don't really think that Hollands is just a winger do you?

I’ve started looking more at the Hotton tape. Looks very handy and could play anywhere. Where do you see him fitting into the Carlton team?

Hotton fits perfectly into our squad, dangerous as a marking forward or HHF and can rotate through the middle

Has Archie Perkin attributes, but can also play as a rebound defender

Surely the concern is that at his listed 181cm height he will have limited marking ability against men?

If he is 181cm he is 4cm shorter than Jack Martin and only 1cm taller than Matt Owies.
