Hun's phantom doesn't have Hewett in the Top 25.
Given they've had Gary Buckenara running it in the past, I'm not sure that should be seen as anything more than a bizarre data point.

At a guess, if GCS take Busslinger, WCE take Ginbey - or vice versa. Hewett at their pick #12/13.

This is a mock draft from the main board - which if we believe the rumours and speculation going around at the moment - could be fairly close to the mark. First 4 picks should be a fait accompli, Dopers apparently circling Phillipou, and Clark to the Cats seems a formality if here's still there. Hawks the wildcard - if they go for Humphrey, Tsatas could be the slider.

1. GWS - Cadman
2. BL - Ashcroft (NM bid matched)
3. NM - Sheezel
4. NM - Wardlaw
5. ESS - Phillipou
6. GC - Ginbey
7. HAW - Tsatas
8. GEEL - Clark
9. WC - Busslinger
10. STK - McKenzie
11. CARL - Humphrey
12. WB - Hayes
13. WCE - Hewett

Just having a quick look at this - who don't I want at 11, from the 10 that gone before them?
You've guessed it - Humphrey!

If it fall this way, we should trade down.
Otherwise, happy with any other players above #11 from the list you've posted.

Humphrey would be the one that you'd get a good trade for too. Swans very keen, apparently Giants are too.

I think Allan to WCE is journos putting 2 and 2 together.

I’d be interested to see a scenario where they don’t have access to at least 2 of Hewett, Busslinger or Ginbey, but at that point in time they’d just back themselves to take the next best prospect - Phillipou or Humphrey or Hollands.

They don’t have the retention issues of other interstate teams.

Hotton fits perfectly into our squad, dangerous as a marking forward or HHF and can rotate through the middle

Has Archie Perkin attributes, but can also play as a rebound defender
Has some wonderful qualities as you have mentioned dangerous across all lines, big fan of his and would be rapt if we were to select him…
His skills/traits remind me a lot of Jamie Elliot of the pies, whom is an absolute ripper who’s been unfortunately cut down by injuries, a very creative and dangerous player…

Clubs are arguably as interested in talking to prospects’ teachers than they are their junior coaches.

Naturally coaches pump up their players and want them to be drafted, and often see them at their best by virtue of doing something that is fun and they usually love doing for a variety of reasons.

My old man taught a few players along the journey, one of whom was Jonathan O’Rourke, and fielded quite a few calls from both GWS and North. Unlike his coaches, he didn’t have a lot of great things to say because JOR wasn’t great academically and was always a fairly cocky kid who knew he’d be drafted and coasted through high school. Not that that’s unusual or anything, but all these little insights help to build a picture of a draftee and their likelihood of professional success - either inside or outside footy.

He also taught James Kelly who was a bright kid and a genuinely good guy, and although I don’t think he spoke to Geelong’s recruiting team he wasn’t surprised he went earlier than expected.

They didn’t take much notice of your dads views, JOR went at 2, one of the biggest busts i can remember.

Maybe not, but they did their due diligence - that was the whole point.

Plowman, by contrast, had exceptional testimonies and that was a major reason why he went at 3 after being roughly rated a late first rounder most of the year.

Players can slide for multiple reasons, mostly never footy related, just like Jack Darling, Sydney Stack, etc

Gone are the days where players are selected purely on footy talent, lots of research is conducted on character and off field behaviour

Though Darling’s were all beat ups. Just a lad & had the discipline of martial arts & father as a grounding.

That would be disappointing, especially considering Holland is still available.

Fills a need, if we could fix his kicking, he'd be elite for us...

My top 5 hopes for pick 11
Philipou, Humphrey, Jefferson, Allan or Hollands

My 5 hopes for our first pick are Tsatas, Ginbey, Philippou, Humphrey and Holland's.

Allan more of an athlete than a footballer. Wouldn't touch him before mid 20s.

Then my hopes for our 2nd/traded up with GWS scenario would be: Weddle, Hotton, Konstanty, Hayes, Cowan or George

At such a high pick, I wouldn’t risk on players with serious flaws

GWS & SYD can fix these flaws and we can collect a tall & small

Jefferson/ Hayes & Hotton/Konstanty

l don't think a club is going to pick a player top 10 with serious flaws with all the research they do and what we are not privy to is the detailed interview process.

The commentary serious flaws is over dramatic on Humphrey, pretty sure no 18 year old here is the finished product.
