I near guarantee Humphrey will be a better AFL player than Hollands and if he slides to us i will be stoked
Id also be happy to take a risk on George and O'Sullivan with later picks

Hollands looks an extremely safe pick to me and I don’t mind that at all.

We have taken a lot of risks in the first round with Stocker, Kemp, LOB, trading out for Cerra and Saad (great moves).

Next year is a draft with plenty of X factor. If Humphrey gets to our pick it wouldn’t shock me if we trade the selection to Sydney or GWS as rumoured.

I have been following the draft since the draft began. This is easily the most interesting by a long way, both for Carlton and in general. Can. Not. Wait.
Certainly Vs the last few years when we’ve spent our draft picks to trade players in, but before that we had a much stronger drafting hand than this year - so what makes it interesting for you this year?

I have said this before… I see it as very even from about 10-25. I don’t recall that previously. That and the prospect of sliders, pick swaps, a couple of injured top prospects and perceived flight risks. A maelstrom of intrigue. Love it.

Spoke to a mate in Perth earlier today, as a result I have jumped off the Hewett train. It is widely regarded over there he will eventually end up in WA. Still rate him as a very good footballer but the strong word out west is he wants to stay home.

So, FWIW, I’ve changed my vote to ‘TRADE’.

I don’t want Hollands, he just doesn’t move the needle for me.

I want us to trade back in the first and have 3 picks in the Top 30. As stated before, Hayes, Barnett and someone like Ryan, Gilbey, Dowling or Teal (a taller outside running player) would do me more than fine. Van Es at 40+ would be a bonus.

These will be the drafts that our recruiting team show their skill set and knowledge. We should not, and will not, have any top 10 picks form now on, so our recruiting team now starts to earn their money.
Having said that, they haven’t done too bad with the past few drafts, with players such as Carrol, Motlop and Durdin, but form now on, it gets crucial. IMO - in particularly talls.

Just no, on so many points.

Also that it's touted to be the lowest number of ND picks ever. Agree it's fascinating. I'm obsessed.

Haven’t seen this posted anywhere. Super footy podcast discussing draft…busslinger, hollands and Allen are the names I remember being mentioned as draftees of interest.

MOMENTUM BUILDING ON ALLAN

Rival clubs believe West Coast may pounce on strong-running midfielder Ed Allan with their first pick as other sides circle this year’s big draft bolter.
The Eagles – who hold picks 8, 12, 20 and 26 – have shown significant interest in the 194cm West Australian, who is the son of former Hawthorn and Fremantle player Ben.

But Carlton (pick 10) also likes the look of Allan, along with the likes of Melbourne (pick 13) and Sydney (pick 14).
Given the Blues’ interest, if the Eagles don’t take Allan at pick 8 he could be off the board by pick 12.

Allan has good size and speed and is a strong runner who was the quickest player over 20m at the national draft combine.

He played limited football this year due to a stress fracture in his back but starred in the five games he played late in the season for Claremont in the WAFL Colts.

West Coast has also been strongly linked to 196cm West Australian key defender Jedd Busslinger at pick 8 and are also believed to be considering South Australian midfielder-forward Mattaes Phillipou and Victorian midfielder Cameron Mackenzie.
I would prefer Allan over Hollands

If we take Allan we must seriously have the biggest midfield ever assembled...

Cripps 195cm 95kg
Allan 194cm 85kg
Kennedy 190cm 90kg
Acres 189cm 92kg
Cerra 188cm 86kg
Carroll 188cm 82kg
Hewett 187cm 86kg
Walsh 184cm 84kg

Frightening large.

Would still prefer a range of others around that pick 10 mark over Allan but a good prospect regardless.

With the rumours of him bolting though it just adds even more intrigue around who we'll select at 10. Does Tsatas or Ginbey slide? Philippou, Humphrey? I've long seen Hollands as the perfect selection if a better option isn't available as he's about as low risk as you can get... But I'd pounce of any of them in a heartbeat if they make it that far.

Large we have but large with speed is something we decidedly lack, particularly on the 'outside'.

Hollands according to rookie central draft guide is just average for speed, but his endurance is through the roof going by their summary of him. Perhaps if Austin does take him, he sees him as more of a sweeper in the backline like Simmo used to be and not the "speedy" winger type.....?

I would still rate Allan around a mid 2nd rounder but is sure to attract interest late 1st round

Ball use is very good on both sides of the body and like most good users, it's more about decision-making around disposal

While he is quick, doesn't really showcase that in games enough at the moment

Has great workrate, disciplined and extremely professional

See him perhaps developing similar to Ballard, but could make for a dangerous wingman
