There are various minor draft rumours about who goes where, but essentially it's minor variations on theme. Looking at that list 5 to 15, are there any we'd really not want or need? The way I see it, with the likes of Cerra, Hewett, Acres coming on board, we've got an essentially 'balanced list'. And so I'd be happy with whomever within that list from 5 to 15...

Fair call Red. For us, I think a natural forward target is not a bad option. Beyond Charlie and H we don’t have a lot. Kemp I think will play 3rd tall, but a mover and shaker with size like a DeGoey or Greene is a hole we have. We have outside run covered in Walsh, Cerra, Acres, Cottrell and LOB, though I’d love an X-factor indigenous lad like the Carlton version of Yaz - Lloyd Johnston with our 3rd pick would do me fine. Though I like Van Es there also.

For our 2nd, I like Barnett, but think he’ll be gone. Will Verrall is grossly underrated. Rated at U17 level as the equal of Barnett but had groin issues. Excellent Ruck/KPP prospect.

Fact is, there’s a lot of options. Just hope Austin has a good draft.

"With pick 49, Carlton select..."

Q’s are whether HFC take Clark before Geelong, and do the WCE’s select Allan before Hewett (and who takes him next, or does WC get another opportunity later @ #20).

I wouldn't waste your time with Paf. We’re a week out from the draft, he’s in his zone - everything we do is a mistake.
You can't say we don't have a history of deciding who we are going to draft too early and not meeting any resistance from other clubs. If you said we didn't, it would be a fib.

Any chance we might offer our future first for Sydney's 15 on the night, or is this just fantasy? Swans may be willing to cool their jets after a very good year from a developing squad, and have a big crack at next year's strong draft.

Would be great to get two of these youngsters in now, there are clearly going to be very good players available around that 15/16 mark.

I think there's definitely a chance we try to trade our F1 for another 1st this year (would obviously need an F3 back, but we might offer #49). Not sure Swans would be keen to trade #15, maybe #18?

Yeah makes sense. I feel like if we could get two picks Jefferson would be worth a crack with our second, big upside with him. Really like the names that are shaping as being available from 10-20, hope we can orchestrate a second selection.

I don't get it Stam... you've been jumping on anyone talking about 10+29 for say 15+19, as you rightly say it needs a higher premium to move up five spots in the first round.

And now you're suggesting F1 for 18? It's essentially betting that we finish premiers for that to be an even deal. Whilst I love your optimism, and I agree we should be better than last year, a more realistic scenario would see that F1 pick being 11-14. Even F1 for 15 would be in the Swans' favour, though not unreasonably so. Perhaps F1 + 64 for 15 + F3 would be fair.

I still don't think we'll do it. A trade involving our F2 would seem more likely.

Sounds like Austin is keen to do business and I’m hoping that is the case.
Reckon GWS holding 18 and 19 is our best bet here.
* likely want to move 22 so something might be possible there …

I have to say I was blown away by this young man!

Excellent chat Pommy, Hope somehow he ends with us even if it meant trading up, really fills a gap in our list, mid sized forward/ midfielder, we don't have one.

We would be on the different side of the equation (trying to buy into the first round vs another team trying to trade up).

I also don't think it's particularly likely (agree F2 more likely), but I think we would have discussed it with other teams, and we might well be willing to do the trade if a player we want is still available. We've been very open that we want an extra pick, and maybe we find it easier to get that trade done in the 1st round rather than the 2nd, and would get a player we rate higher.

As for the cost for #15 or #18 etc, we would be trading for a player, not the pick number (which is again a different scenario to trading #11 back).

Great interview from a draftee perspective. Pom asking lots of good questions. This young chap oozes confidence so will be interesting to follow his career.

Thanks - how do we get him in our team?

Your post went beyond that, effectively claiming we're going to pick Hollands despite no other clubs holding interest in him - which is obviously rubbish.

Instead of coming in post-draft telling us we've made mistakes, how about you tell us pre-draft who you'd actually be happy with? Who has caught your eye and why?

Great interview Pommy.

Would love him at the Blues but think he’ll be gone before our pick.

PS: off the record, you didn’t give him Charlie Curnow’s number by any chance, to get advice on how to last to #12.:)

I wouldn’t do it, 2023 cohort is special, not exaggerating nor hyping it up I know it’s said every draft year so there’s always cynicism too.
However :- Reid, Watson , Patton, Curtin, Stevens, Duursma a few names to take note, top 10/ 15 are good quality prospects indeed.
I‘d tread cautiously, unless Austin is focused on a youngster in 2022 he must have with similar potential.
