Truly amazing. I've watched him since he was a 9 year old as he played with my son. First couple of years he couldn't mark to save his life, but was always great at getting the ground ball. Played like a small even when being a giant amongst the other kids. Lost track of him when he started playing for westies. Big Port fan. Good to hear he ironed out the marking..
Lockleys?

Definitely a Port fan, used to frequently bump into his family years back in the western stand but don't remember any soccer background.

The last time we did the KPD/KPF combo with latish picks it was Mason Shaw and Logan Austin combo.

The both showed promise but went nowhere.

Hopefully this combo works better.

I think Mason Shaw was drafted with Tubbs Harvey - and Logan Austin came with Dougal Howard and Billie Frampton.
Your point is still valid though

Check out the height here.

KPF: T.Marshall, Dixon, Georgiades, Teakle, Lord, Scully
Ruck: Lycett, Finlayson, Hayes, Visentini
KPD: Aliir, Jonas, Clurey, McKenzie, Pasini, McCallum, K.Marshall

Good luck to Corcoran and Weidemann getting a game now at either side of the ground in the SANFL.
I see a fairly unbalanced list for 2023, but I reckon it is clear we expect to delist/retire off a couple in the coming years, so 1 year of pain is probably a neccessary evil.

McKenzie, Jonas nearly gone, Hayes at risk, Lord very unlikely to survive.

I’d still take this over the years they decided to do the first ten picks behind closed doors and then reveal them from 10-to-1 in reverse-order.

Like, how was whoever suggested that doozy not fired on the spot? Instead it’s, “I agree with that logic!”.

The AFL, man.

The 10-1 backwards draft was one of the dumbest things the AFL have done in the long line of dumb things they’ve done in the last decade and a bit.

Everyone knows who is going to go in the first few picks, the intrigue comes after the obvious ones… Counting down to 1 was not suspenseful at all, complete waste of time

No. I just told you why the comp is not deep it's not some incredible feat for a club with some decent talent to make finals.

I fear for your sanity when we make finals next year.
Teams have flown past us. Even with RCG's on, I think we'd be lucky to be the 7th best side next year.

Picking for the future is absolutely what we needed to do. Thankfully, Kenny's desperation to save his career didn't surpass the long term focus we need to take.

What your saying is pretty spot on.
Even with our dismal efforts this year all we needed is a couple of close games go our way and we would have made the 8.
We are certs to play finals next year.

We will take him, he's a pretty good player. Don't Chayce Jones him please!
yes, he is a good player, and he will definitely play more games than the cows Chayce .... my thought was why get a 192 - 193 cm defender when we have Pasini same height coming back from injury (and he can cover the role)

we have gone from Clurey / McKenzie to in the future of Pasini / McCallum

If you do a U/25 team for Port prior to this draft the biggest holes are who plays as the 197cm + CHB / FB
(We have every other position covered)

here was a chance of getting a 197cm - 90kg KPD who can play straight away on the 100kg+ forwards like Hawkins or 200cm+ forwards like the King brothers, McKay, Thilthorpe, Daniher and Hipwood but with missing out we have to hope that Clurey & McKenzie can continue to hold these heavier or taller forwards again in 2023

I'm pretty stoked with the overall outcome of the draft. Three high quality talent kids with later picks, Scully and Marshall have the raw size to develop nicely in any key position.
I think McCallum is the real win here. A direct upgrade on what we have as a third tall, fits our style already could really see him getting some game time next year. I'd be stoked to get a player like that in the top 20 of this draft let alone in the mid 30s

And we were close to those lucky wins making us fall down the ladder further.

Swings and roundabouts, our list will be lucky to live up to the lofty 11th

I'm guessing because they're all growing boys and the different profiles got their info at different times

Shout-out to ‘197cm’ Cameron O’Shea because #13 is directly beneath #12.

No one in this draft will be remotely capable of playing on Hawkins, McKay, Curnow, the Kings etc for at least a couple years.

Why is there such a difference in heights and weights on the player profiles?
the 70 odd players who go to the AFL Combine get weighted and measured. I assume they do this at state combines, but maybe not.

Not all the phantom drafters, RookieMeCentral type of websites get access to those October measurements. Pretty sure all players are weighted and measured at start of the year by the clubs they play for.

So should we use the 201cm height for Marshall or 198cm?
201 comes from the AFL's draft tracker, so that would have all the players info who were measured at various combines plus info from players clubs, so I'd say that is the correct one.

Going so tall does seem like a significant change in recruiting priorities.

Could it be because there is in fact a succession plan in place and as a result Carr was the one giving directives to the recruiters on player types we need?

Or is that just wishful thinking?
