Is this the same Dan that said I'll go anywhere, I just want to be in Melbourne. It always ends the same way, 100% power to the player & player manager.
Clubs like Geelong never get f*cked over from what I've seen. They get the red carpet laid out. I think the impact the Vic media has in shaping opinions & expectations is huge & it leads to favourable treatment of Vic clubs. Was interested to read that McGuire was one of the mediators to resolve the Melbourne court case. His influence runs deep & has to impact the favourable treatment Collingwood receive. We received an over the hill player that we have been laughing at for years.
We also get to pay him and give him a list spot.
We also received a player that Hardwick (3 times premiership coach) is happy to let go.
We also received a 25 year old 9 game player that might have some potential but that’s no guarantee.
That’s basically what we got.
What we gave away is our first round pick next year and a two time AA defender.
We also received picks that might work out good or could be a flop, that’s speculation and won’t be proven either way for sometime.
All I’m saying is for me is I believe we held all the cards and should have got a better deal.
Clubs like Geelong wouldn’t have accepted this deal, that’s why they are winning flags and we are winning fk all.
You like it then goody for you.
Robbie is a true professional. Went to a sports night with Robbie, Dixon & Jonas. Only one player showed the desire required to win a flag. Jonas spent question/interview time telling us what a spud he was. This was the captain of an Afl club. Don't care if it's a sportsman's night or not I don't want to hear that from my captain. Dixon talked about work-life balance & how Ken had relaxed after his first 2 years which the players prefered. It was so consistent with our lack of ambition as club. All up I’m happy enough with our draft haul. I don’t know that we’re any closer to a flag I think we needed to cut harder with a view to draft and be in the window in 2 or 3 years
Having said that, our list management team on balance I think does a great job. All teams have booms and busts and I think our guys do as well as any
Robbie looked as sexy as ever btw. Love the guy.
I agree with what your saying but if you continually pull your own pants down and bend over you get what you deserveClubs like Geelong never get f*cked over from what I've seen. Our players don't appear to be able to buy farming properties cheaply.Clubs like Geelong never get f*cked over from what I've seen. They get the red carpet laid out. It's never a level playing field. They always find ways to rort the system. Our players don't appear to be able to buy farming properties cheaply.
Geez, get your head out the sand! We held NO effing cards. Buckleys, zip, sweet buggerall!!......

Sorry about that, I had this stupid idea when you had a player that’s contracted to you and wants to leave you are in a better position to negotiate.Geez, get your head out the sand! We held NO effing cards. Buckleys, zip, sweet buggerall!!

That’s the best thing about this forum, always someone there to clarify things.
We was all pretty happy when the news came out the club had put a stop to the deal. It's great in theory but the reality was he stuffed us by locking us into a deal with one club who had bugger all to give, despite his comments to the contrary.
So what do you do? Keep a guy who doesn't want to be here, who will sulk his way through the year while his manager actively white ants our work with players who are his clients, hope he doesn't get injured then go through it all again. After he's another year older and his form has fallen off a cliff. And even if we fluke a better pick in 2025, it's in the most heavily compromised draft ever.
The reality is we had to do a deal as best we could in the time we had. If Rioli hadn't been going to Gold Coast we probably would have done better, but Richmond were out to screw Gold Coast who basically made the Houston deal happen by taking Noble. Port tried to squeeze more out of Gold Coast but they had no more to give and said This is it, take it or leave it. Then they would have traded pick 13 to North who would have screwed us even harder.
We made the best of a bad situation and on face value things fell our way in the draft and we look to have picked up 3 very good players.
Let's just hope Port wins a few flags in the the next few years while the pies languish between 9th onwards for the rest of his career.I’m happy with the end result. We’ve got some great young kids through the draft. Houston is happy at Collingwood. Win win

Look 240volt ... I dont want to be insulting, and/or argue with fellow Port supporters. But facts are facts! You cant reply to your post more succinctly than Ford has. It's great in theory but the reality was he stuffed us by locking us into a deal with one club who had bugger all to give, despite his comments to the contrary.

For the Eagles, they had Allan and then Berry as their preferred targets, but could move back one pick with confidence that Allan would still be available because Port was desperate for Berry. Moving back two spots was too risky. The Power ranked Berry slightly ahead of Murphy Reid and Jack Whitlock, and had previously raised packaging up their first two picks to get Melbourne's second selection - without success.
