I’m also liking the progress of Nathan barkla, our nga prospect. I’ve seen him running around the last year or so and never really thought about him as he was very low production and slips under the radar but he’s catching the eye this year. Looks quick, decent kick, is getting lots of time on ball.

Still a work in progress but as a freebie there might be something to develop.

Love to hear what others thoughts are if they’ve watched him.

Need to take Jye Menzie in the midseason draft. He’s what we thought we could turn McEntee into.
Had a great game but we fielded one defender today, and after watching jye get overtaken in a foot race by pasini that made jye look like he was running in quicksand I question how effective he would be against afl level defenders.

I hope we do make use of the mid season draft though.. knowing us we will use it to take a low ceiling sanfl plodder tho.. but we have an early pick and it would be a great chance to use it to try to nail a kid we wouldnt have had access to who might go early in the Nat draft of the msd wasn’t a thing.

As much as this is a KPP draft

There is some top level mids that excite me
Ryan daloia magor Duncan walls phillipou Hansen just from Sa and off the top of my head.

Ryan a ball winning machine. Not sure of a good comparison for those who haven’t seen him. Maybe Walsh or boak, not sure if they’re the best comparison but gives some idea.

Daloia a well developed big bodied inside clearance winner.

Magor is a damaging inside outside balanced mid with goal sense who I’m liking seeing playing in the midfield.

Duncan is very good as a running mid who can do a bit of everything.

Hansen, I don’t know if he is an afl player or not but I love watching him. 41d today as a wing / hbf and ran so hard. Never standing still.

Phillipou is stringer / de goey if they knew how to find more of the ball in the midfield. Great hands in close, sticky hands in marking and strong. Not sure if those two are exact comparisons but gives some idea if you have never seen him.

Jhye Clark from Vic c is my fav though. Brute mid with enough athleticism and high footballing brain / pedigree.

FWIW I reckon we need a KPF/2nd ruck for post-Charlie times, and a tall KPD.

Also a couple of crumbling forwards with X-factor for post-Robbie/Mots/Fantasia times.

Topped off with two decent mids.

Plenty of talls around:
Keeler, Scully, Barnett, Lemmey, Elliott, Broadbent, etc.

Need to give up someone to get into this draft for the new coach.

Amon is the obvious one but he gets us end of first round/start of second round compo.

If we finish bottom 4 would be nice to get another top 10 pick.

I actually don’t think our list wants for too much.

We need a very early pick key forward this year. We also need to start drafting some key defenders, at any point of the draft.

Otherwise, the next phase of our rebuild is really going to depend on the development of guys like Hayes, Georgiades, Butters, Rozee and Duursma. Even guys like Drew, SPP and Houston are still young.

If last years midseason draft is any guide we should be looking for a young ruckman who’s started developing over the summer with our likely very early pick.
