I must be just about the only one on this board who doesn't really hold a preference as to who we pick.

They all seem like great fits for our side providing they at least meet their expected potential.

Slide back to 9 and take saints 28 for 6 if we go McKenzie.
It really does depend on how highly we rate the group of players surrounding our pick. If very little separates those we rate between 6 & 9 (7 & 10) I would cash in on that Saints trade. As long as we don't get too cute & miss out on a particular player we were anticipating to get through a little later.
It's all about calculated risks when live trading. The bonus for us is that we are desperate for quality midfielders and this draft has plenty of quality mids available in the top 10.

After his interview today we won't be getting FIGJAM. Nothing to do with his confidence etc. It's the answer he gave to one critical question. If I was Sam and listening it would finalise my decision.

He was asked where he would like to/sees himself starting in the AFL. He said he preferred to start up forward and pinch hit in the midfield. That tells me he sees himself as lacking the skills or confidence (I know right!) to play there. We need a midfielder who can can also go forward and kick goals. Up till now I was very uncertain like everyone else but I no longer think he's in calculations for us. He also gives me the vibes that he is already headed to Essendon from the way he talks about them. I hope Dodo hasn't set him for disappointment because his responses says he's already there. At the end of the day he's a kid and shouldn't be misled before his career even starts

After changing my mind 826 times, I’ve finally decided.

I want Cam Mackenzie.

  • listed as 187cm, which means he can potentially grow to 190cm+
  • appears to have a body type that can gain size/muscle
  • his skills are great (I love his kicking action)
  • has a burst of speed from stoppages
  • able to play both on the inside and outside
  • describes himself as a midfielder who can also kick goals
  • doesn’t appear to be lacking in any facets of his game
  • he’s Victorian and a Hawthorn supporter (I think)

Make it happen MM!

I am no expert (like Davo or TDS7) and have no inside knowledge

the only thing I am going by is write ups and heresy..so take what I say with an absolute grain of salt

....I like the sounds of Clark.

Determined, leadership, never say die attitude - where we are at the moment and given the truckloads of experience we've lost I think he's the kind of player we need. In combination with Newcombe, Ward, McDonald and Maginness I think he's perfect.

I would hope we take the best key position player we can next year - for all the talk of midfielders - teams need some handy spine players if they are going to have a tilt.

...but remember grain of salt

I want Phillipou, but will be quite happy with Mackenzie, for the reasons you've listed above.

I'm the greedy type, so if we've ended up with Mackenzie then I hope it's because we've traded back slightly & ended with another Pick as well.

Of course, I'll be pretty excited with Tsatas, as well.

We do have big mids, do not know why some make it sound like we have none.

I want Clark, he leads and he his desire to push through the pain, his desperation for a captains act is what we lack.

We can aim for elite class in 2023 Ried, Dursma, Caddy. An in 2023 we will have seen the boys under 16 and undet 18 years.

Someone might be changing sig to mmmmm

Is he playing games with that statement however? I think so, why would you declare your hand unless he's playing double bluff.
Maybe he thinks we’ll think he’s playing games so he’s saying what he really wants so we don’t actually know?

Another thing that I notice which impresses me with McKenzie is the way he moves. He takes off quickly with little steps, has a nice side step and can change direction quickly. He looks and moves like a small dude but he’s 6’2! Reckon Lewis would be licking his lips seeing him with the ball running towards him.

So so classy.
Hits targets going inside 50 weighting the kick to forward’s advantage.
Exactly what we are needing.

I remember Fox Sports reviewing Geelong’s 2017 haul as follows:

Geelong absolutely nailed it. In securing Lachlan Fogarty, Tim Kelly and Charlie Constable, the Cats secured three ready-made players who can push for their Round 1 side straightaway next year.

Guess what, 3 seasons later they were all either at new clubs or cut from the list.

And they have no 2nd 3rd or 4th rounder in either 2022 or 2023

Fair enough they’re going for it, premiership team even older than the 2015 premiers, but hardly any commentators are saying that
