Do you disagree with them?
I think they have one already but he’s just continually injured and overweight. Jake stringer is their game breaking mid. Their midfield is easily their strongest line, while their backline and forwardline are borderline worst in the afl

Humphrey reminds me of Stringer/JDG - explosive forward that will bring his dynamism into the middle.

I believe Essendon were interested in Mackenzie though.

He’d have to say in his interviews that he will demand a trade to Hawthorn asap if any other team drafts him
From memory GWS were claiming draft tampering when Wingard answered honestly in his interview that he'd probably seek a trade back to SA at the end of his draftee contract if selected by them. Which was probably as close to the line as you can get.

To name a specific club in the same state would have to be for sure.

Would need to be a bit more subtle... be disinterested during the interview and then perk up when his phone starts ringing with his "We're a happy team at Hawthorn" ringtone mid-interview.

It's not tampering at all, IMO - they still have every right & every availability to select said player. If they get upset about an honest answer then why ask the question?

It's like they would prefer the player lie about it, then miraculously change their mind after 18 months... *'en stupid!!!

If we get the pick slide from the pies (16) there’s some talent there.

Who would we target?
Or what about if we get 7 with bowes, trade back with Sydney for 14,17 and 36 and give something back and get 2 of the talents around that mark. Would like Jefferson hewett ginbey or hotton. The icing on the cake is pick 36, which becomes 38 after lions 2 f/s picks, which ironically is the same pick where Dildoro fist pumped re Irving mosquito, where we hear those sweet sweet words…”with pick 38 the hawthorn football club select Anthony Munkara” - 2 picks before the scum can take him NGA.

We've put a lot of work into Matt Phillipou and have talked to him I've been told.
At the moment there's strong consideration between him and Jhye Clark, assuming Cadman is taken.
Take it as you like.
I heard the two we were looking at were Jhye Clark & Cam MacKenzie, but we’ve also spoken a fair amount to Phillipou & Sheezel.

With pick 6 I’ve settled on philippou I think hes a potential star and exactly what we need. I can’t see how you would consider Humphrey over philippou. Would be great to get a pick in the teens and get ginbey or hotton and the dream pick 7 for Mackenzie or Clark.

Phillipou is a good size and is strong already. In many ways I can see him being the best mid from this years crop. He has some great attributes that suggests he will be a very good AFL player. Don't worry about how many disposals he gets. Watch his vision and how he moves. Great acceleration. Competes well. Good overhead. Nice kick. Powerful and fast. That's what's impressive. ESPN rankings has him at #2. He won't go that high but imo he won't slip too many past that prediction.

He's a bottom-ager with arguably the highest ceiling who's already a firm top-ten.
The more I read about him the more I'm coming around.
Up until now it was Clark for me (assuming that Sheezel & Cadman would be gone) over Mackenzie but now Phillipou is taking over.

Bottom agers? Not this lot. ;-)

assuming Ashcroft, Wardlaw, Sheezel, Tsatas, Cadman are gone

if we were lucky enough to have pick 6 and pick 7 i would want Cam MacKenzie (highly skilled, good runner, good contested footy, interviews well, maybe a bit serious?) and 1 of Clark/Phillipou/George all 3 have positives and negatives, Clark interviews like a Jock in those old sports movies (animal house ect) and Phillipou seems a bit too sure of himself in his interviews a bit cocky, have not seen George in an interview, Clark on field has been pretty consistent for Vic Country and Geelong has moments of brilliance, Phillipou is a forward turned midfielder, can be good in both areas, has a nice turn of speed and can look like a special player at times, he can get a handball out of tight situations, kick a long goal and take a strong mark, George is a power forward in the vein of Humphrey but can kick goals at the rate of Sheezel(2-3 per game), probably doesnt have much of a midfield game as yet and has done an ACL which might scare us off him, but he is an option if we choose forward over midfielder for the 2nd pick if we get it of course.

i just think Cam MacKenzie gives us what we need a mid who can win it in tight and run away from the contest with good disposal and decision making skills, also being 187cm he is that Jordan Lewis big body in the guts

Provided Sheezel, Tsatas and Wardlaw are unavailable I think we should go with Phillipou.

He's got the highest upside by the sounds of it, tall, athletic, skilful and versatile - pretty much everything we are looking for in a player.

If we drafted him he could follow a similar path to MacDonald, by playing forward early and then eventually move into the midfield in year two or three.

After that, I think Mackenzie is the next best option. He is a classy user and is a good size.

Both players are quality users that (to me) would compliment our current midfield core the most.

If it’s borderline, do we go Victorian (rather than Philipou)? Hasn’t seemed to worry us in the past with
Day and DGB recently but JHF this year may spook clubs.

Phillipou has openly stated he would be more than happy to move but it definitely appears as though clubs are opting more for home based players lately.

187cm is such a good size for an AFL midfielder. So many of the top midfielders at the moment are around that 186cm to 193cm mark.

Combine that size with all his other traits and I reckon that's our pick right there.
