From an article regarding the NAB league Grand Final, in case anyone was doubting we got an impactful player:

Mackenzie was the top-ranked player on the ground in a polished and well-rounded display through the midfield.
The St Kilda Next Generation Academy prospect tallied 170 SuperCoach points from 26 disposals, 17 kicks (at an elite 85 per cent efficiency), 10 >score involvements, 6 tackles, 6 clearances and two goals, franking his status as a top-10 pick in this year’s draft.

In comparison, Ashcroft managed 157 supercoach from his 39 disposals, 9 score involvements, and six clearances.

170sp from 26d is elite impact for a midfielder. When Cam gets the ball, things happen.

I was critical of Mark Mckenzie during trade week but gee some of you lot will never be happy.

We bitc#ed and moaned all trade week about his inability to get another first rounder now that he does we're still going.

Kudos to MM for getting the deal done and bringing in more top end talent to the club.

Great first round tonight, all year we complained about the ball use from our midfield brigade well we brought in the best kicking midfielder in the draft & a high upside defender.

With Morris, Blanck, DGB coming through and now Weddle so excited to see what plans Sam has with Siss, CJ, Scrimmers, Day and Hardwick. The white board will be going bananas on game day. Exciting times!

MacKenzie said above that they see Weddle moving up the ground, and that he could play wing.

The more I've thought about the Weddle pick, the more I see how he could be a similar player to Ginbey in that they're similar height, similar weight, similar athletic ability, both attack the ball, and Ginbey was moved from hbf up to midfield this year pretty successfully, so maybe the Hawks think they could do a similar thing with Weddle

Is there anywhere that is a definitive source of whether the F2 and F3's are ours or from the Doggies? And is there are definitive source of what picks clubs have (as a result of trading) next year? I can't seem to find any info whatsoever and no one from the HawthornFC twitter account is answering questions as to whether the F2 and F3 are the doggies are not. Given that they screwed up and then deleted the tweet after we did the Brisbane pick trade I have no faith with HawthornFC when they say "our" .

I also did some quick maths (happy to be corrected).

If we traded Pick 27, and our F2 and F3 (say #24 and 42) then the aggregate is 1,883 points which is around Pick 5.
If we traded Pick 27, and Doggies F2 and F3 (say #30 and #48 at worst) then the aggregate is 1,634 points which is around Pick 8.

In either case it looks as if we paid well overs for Weddle. I have nothing against Weddle as he looks good as a player although I don't get the position that he plays as a priority for us. If they want to move him forward it would make more sense although I always worry about (Aaron Naughton aside) when we swap players from their original position first up eg trying to turn Shoey into a CHB when he was a CHF.

Same thing with Cam Mackenzie.

Started as a halfback, made the move into the midfield and became a top 7 pick. Different player to Weddle and Ginbey, more skilled extractor and less of an intercepting, crash-and-bash lockdown guy. Opportunity can give us all such bountiful gifts.
