The Lions will now play North Melbourne at Victoria University Whitten Oval on Sunday 6 March at 12.10pm AEST (1.10pm local time) with the game open to the general public and free to attend.

Emily Bates and Ally Anderson will create AFLW history on Sunday when they become the first players to crack the 50-game milestone, just hours before Adelaide's Ebony Marinoff joins them.

Fair to say any chance of a top 2 spot is now basically gone. I guess relying on the Fremantle Football Club for anything is always gonna be fraught with danger.

The silver lining I suppose is it makes our performance against Melbourne look even more impressive, particularly after coming off consecutive 4 day breaks.

Still plenty to play for tomorrow - a home final first up would be handy. If, of course, it is actually scheduled at "home" 🤨

good lord. I am not the biggest follower of individual players in other clubs, but would it be fair to say with those 3 out today they lost a lot of their biggest star power?

We have a few individual star players but I think more than any other team we are more about the team as a whole rather than having the star players drag them over the line.

edit: on further reading Freo has a few more than just the 3 out.. golly it doesn't bode well for next year with the diluted pool.....

Considering how much the lions ladies have been handicapped this season compared to the rest of the comp finishing 3rd would be a remarkable result.

Would rather finish 3 or 4 and play every week in finals.
Week off may not be a good thing for our semi-professional womens team.

So even if we lose to the Bulldogs next week we are basically locked into finishing 3rd and guaranteed a home final in week 1.

Hypotheticaly we're still a chance of finishing 2nd or even 1st if we defeat the dogs and either or both Melbourne and Adelaide drop their games which is unlikely seeing they are playing Carlton & St Kilda.

Just beat the Dogs Lionesses :), it'll make sure they don't finish 6th and we can take on the Pies.

Pies at the Gabba week 1, win that and we play either Adelaide or Melbourne away in a prelim. Hypotheticaly if we were to make the grand final, North Melbourne at the Gabba would be the ideal match up imo.

If we finish 3rd and meet Pies, then it'll be Melbourne @ Casey. Get past them we'll be going Adelaide to win our second Granny

This is an interesting call. In fairness, having the week off probably didn't help the team against Collingwood in the prelim last year.

"Dissecting Round Nine". LOL. Melbourne, North, Collingwood, Richmond and repeat the Melbourne discussion.

I actually think this is great. Yes, we'd all love to see/hear the media shower our ladies with more well-deserved praise, but I actually think it's even better if they are completely ignored, much as our men's team often are. Sure, I know other clubs are not the media and they'll do their own research (maybe), but I'm sure media coverage plays a part in affecting how other teams view ours, even subconsciously, so there's much to be said for flying under the radar...

In one sense I agree with you, just like the mens team who have the history of that (and just all non-vic teams really :p)

But the romantic in me sees how this womens comp is a new entity and has the potential to really get more women in sports through all of australia, not just victorie etc. We've been probably one of the two pillars of AFLW along with the Crows from the start showing professionalism, the hard work and the success that will inspire others. So it isn't really all that bad when we're not part of the focus on aflw all the time, but it would be nice if the AFLW was better than the AFL in that regard.

then again I could just be overthinking it all and so on...
