I see WHE = Henry. Similar medium sized marking forwards who play taller than they are. So hopefully by the end of the years, that's what will happen.
I think Henry will need to develop and demonstrate his work up the ground or at ground level to be an automatic selection, as they don't need a medium marking target inside 50 - bar Elliott and JDG. WHE would be seen as more versatile, more likely to perform in a higher role - shown more ability to play as an outside linkman and not just a marking forward. Things might change if Elliott gets injured - but I think that'd create an opening for Reef rather than Ollie.

I don’t really think Henry needs to develop midfield skills, he looks like a pure half-forward with a Jack Gunston like ceiling.

As long as he continues putting on size and working on the ground-ball pressure game, he should be a consistent lock. The last thing we need is our highest draft pick leaving to Geelong.

Exactly the type of player I see in Henry , Gunston , pure natural fluent forward with great hands , but as others have said , he needs to work on his short comings at the moment , below his knees ,tackling , corralling, pressure on opponent when they have it , gain that strength which will naturally come if he hits the weights , he is still growing into his body. I’m a believer.

I think he's one hell of a prospect. Teenagers who can clunk it like him are extremely rare.

I'm just talking short term, immediate selection without injuries. I think he needs to either be better at ground level and defensively or be able to play higher to be a lock this year. Long term, I think he's an outstanding intercept defender prospect as well as a very good medium forward prospect.

Yes, perhaps that’s how it will go. I just dont see how Henry will get the chance to shine up forward unless injuries set in. I guess that is always likely at Collingwood! Hopefully he grabs his opportunity when it comes.

I'm not so sure. Really depends if they think he is valuable enough to play right away. If he plays this weekend, then that will be a good sign. If he doesn't, then maybe not.

That’s the spot I think he needs to take now, especially if we’re playing the 3 talls. The WHE role as a high half forward which is where you suspect WHE with Daicos and Sidey back on the wings.

His ability to hit up and take a mark on the wings with Kreuger is what he should aim for. Cox can play deeper and Checkers can just run and outwork his defender.

I'm expecting them to go with WHE to begin with - as he can also hit up, but has shown more ability to get on the spread and hit someone up inside forward 50 - his usage into 50 is just about the best in the team.

The bold is vital imo, if we're playing all 4 of Grundy, Mihocek and two of Kreuger/Cox/Cameron we should consistently have one of on that trio within 30m of goal at all time. I can appreciate that importance of having one of Kreuger/Cox/Cameron up the ground as a target, but the other should almost exclusively be positioned i50 (barring when we are deliberately isolating JDG there for example).

I can't see the sense of focusing on quick ball movement i50, only for our mids to look up and see the only i50 target is Trent Bianco in a 2v1 because both of our KPF's have pushed up to the wings and are 20m's behind the play.

I’m expecting that also but I think the pressure is on WHE to perform…. As it should be always but I suspect he’s been an automatic selection most weeks whereas he may not be this year.

If that’s the case then it’s a good thing as our depth has improved or his form has improved.

We've suddenly got strong depth regarding flankers. Adding N Daicos plus likely to be no stoppage for Sidey and Josh Daicos, plus limited stoppage for Pendles. So we've now got: Quaynor, Maynard, Crisp, Pendles, Sidey, Daicos, Daicos, WHE, Noble spending lots of time on the wings and flanks. Guys like Henry, Ruscoe and Macrae are going to have to perform to get chances - unless there are injuries. Plus there might be additional pressure from the new draftees. Plus Ginnivan would probably contribute if given more time playing higher up the ground. I like it.

Whilst some would like to see us get as many games as possible into kids - I'd prefer them to have to work really hard to get their opportunities.

Agree on the depth front. It’s building. Nick Daicos and Lipinski in, plus playing Kreuger as the third tall upfront will cost some fringe players a spot and that’s a good thing.

I’m in the camp of rewarding youngsters when they deserve the opportunity and giving them an extended run at it so the pressure for mine is on the likes of Noble and WHE to keep Macrae, McInnes, Poulter and Henry out. A drop in form from those two, and the youngsters I expect to see Round 1 in McCreery and Ginnivan, should see them lose their spot to anyone performing.

How is Henry’s repeat running fitness these days? In his first season he seemed to be hunched over sucking in the big ones very early in games. That won’t be a problem for WHE.

I honestly couldn’t tell you as I haven’t been to training but I did see him involved three times in 2 minutes of play during the practice match on Friday including presenting up to mark on the lead twice. That would certainly indicate it’s on the improve.

Has Cox gone past Cameron this preseason? I saw McRae pumping Cox up on AFL.com and talking as though he is a starter. McRae expects to be kicking to more contests and see's Cox as the guy to bring the ball to ground and hit more contests compared to Cameron. It's an interesting shift. I think it needs support by good ground level pressure and players.

There is a round 1 selection conundrum with Dean out. Do we select Madgen, Kelly or .... maybe Krueger? I would go with Kelly personally. Madgen is a guy we need to move past. I'd be reluctant to move Krueger after a preseason forward. Kelly is probably best suited to defence anyway. It may offer him a career lifeline.

Options?

Kreuger, Madgen, Kelly, Ruscoe or Howe play “bigger” (if fit), Cameron (left field)

Moore takes the biggest Key forward.

One of our undersized options takes the next biggest.

If they go tall with their second or third key forward then probably our backup ruck needs to mind them.

Will be a nice little problem to solve for McFly first up.

Kreuger should already be playing, up forward. Fairly ambivalent on Madgen vs Kelly so I guess I would go for Kelly for his development.

Play Kelly in a KPD post in the practice match. If he goes ok, keep him in for Round 1 - if he struggles, try a different plan.

Please excuse my intrusion but I have a question relating to a Collingwood player so I figured this is the best place to ask it.
There was some speculation recently that Maynard would be given more midfield time this year but I have my doubts.
Is it likely or will he continue his role at half back.
This question obviously relates to my dream team makeup.
Thanks.

That is the genral view. He even mentioned in his recent interview he would be. How much? is anyone's guess. But I think he'll rotate through there, along with some of the other HB's. But hard to say how many centre bounces he will attend, a few I'd think.
