You'll never see Hill play on the wing. He doesn't have the tank. It'll be Lippa, Sidey, Crisp from what ive seen.
I think perryman will alternative between mid and hb. Haven't seen him on the wing though he does the running capacity for it.

I don't think we'll overhaul our structure, so I think two rucks is what we prefer.

Why does everyone seem to think Membrey walks into the team?

Feels like people just want to add him because he is new.

I honestly don't see him getting a gig unless one of Checkers/ McStay / Elliot go down.

Because he's a specialist forward who is a lock for 30-35 goals a year (minimum) and I really doubt we brought him in to be depth at 30 years old?

Like, if Ash Johnson didn't go so downhill so fast, he would have been in the side still too. Membrey is basically Ash except he's getting the best out of whatever talent he has. Ash never did/will. So if Ash was basically starting 23 while he was playing well, I don't see why Membrey wouldn't be.

If Membrey was good for 30-35 playing within St.Kilda's dour defensive style, imagine what he could do in an attacking team

Only way that can happen if we change our structure to go with 1 ruck. Or he replaces WHE as the third tall. Cox has been playing forward with stints in the ruck
We'll get a better idea after christmas

I'd add Mitchell, WHE to the retired list in 2-3 years. Maybe crisp too. Who knows on mcstay too, he'll be at the end of his 5 year deal by then
All are over 30
Crispy will play 300......consecutive

He has to play 8 more consecutive games to better the record held by Jim Stynes.

Looking forward to seeing him line up.
He always seemed to snag a few against us.

He was delisted by Stk.

So we hardly chased him with the promise of game time.
So yes....we brought him in as first up depth if we lose our incumbent KPF.

Fly doesn't like one position players. Think that's been very clear for anyone to see over his tenure.
If he doesn't develop other options, he'll have limited scope in our team as he's behind McStay / Checkers /Elliot.

As Jen said....change to our game style and structure (wont happen) or injuries (more likely) are what will give him a chance.

As for 30-35 goals a lock.....sigh.

With Nick, Dan, pendles hitting him up, second or third best defender too.

Have been lurking for a while on here though after reading this comment I had to post for the first time because I couldn’t agree more.

I don’t think we signed Membrey to be depth and I’ll be shocked if he isn’t lining up in Opening Round. He’s one of the best kicks at goal in the comp, is a very good mark and will have delivery from some of the best kicks in the comp.

He’ll also be taking the third best defender so will be making intercept players like Himmelberg, Lever, Haynes, etc. accountable. That’s perfect for our forward pressure game style if we’re halving every contest. Yes I know Cox could do this too though Membrey has much better leading patterns.

I love WHE though if he’s training purely in the forward line now, I’m taking Membrey and making WHE the sub.

I’d say one position is not the right term. We want players who can play multiple roles. That may be all within the same part of the ground though.

His career average is 1.6 goals a game

That’s literally in the 30-35 goal range a season lmao

Feel free to go look through his yearly goal tally for the last decade.

Ill do it...Membrey's goal tallies for the last 9 seasons are: 30 , 6 (only played 7 games), 34, 34, 20, 44, 34, 38, 44, so yup 30 plus goals in 7 of his last 9 seasons.

FWIW I think he is too good to leave out and he is better than depth. Certainly poses a selection headache as how you fit in 3 tallish forwards and 2 rucks into the team

Is that like when he spent loads of a preseason in defence but then played largely forward in the H&A?
Dont think so. When he trained in defence in 2023, he ended up playing there in the back half of the year. He was then moved back forward in 2024. From what i've seen so far, he's only been training forward. Doesn't mean he wont spent a little on the wing (though we do have more options now in that position), but seems to be more forward now.

Like Josh, while he may spend some time on the wing, seems he is mostly in defence now.

Maybe Frampton plays on the opposition forward/ruck and follows them into the ruck

How many of those playing in our current fwd line in year 1, at a different ground?

You do realize that what has happened at other clubs and their fwd structures & gameplan may actually have some impact on a players output?

You often use historical references and stats to define a players worth.
The last 3 years should tell you the current pies don't value the same stats you do.

I can guarantee you the pies will value defensive pressure, workrate, not getting out marked (for a tall) and probably score involvements far above a meaningless goal tally.

He will be judged and selected on his ability to perform the job asked of him .....not on whether he kicks 1.6 goals a game at another club that plays a vastly different gamestyle and predominately plays at Marvel and not the MCG.
