Feels like this is the way the mail is suggesting it will go currently:

1. GWS - Aaron Cadman
2. Brisbane - Marcus Ashcroft (matched bid)
3. North - George Wardlaw
4. North - Harry Sheezel
5. Essendon - Mattaes Phillipou
6. Gold Coast - Reuben Ginbey
7. Hawthorn - Bailey Humphrey
8. Geelong - Elijah Tsatas
9. West Coast - Jhye Clark
10. St Kilda - Cam McKenzie
11. Carlton - Oliver Hollands

Pulling things together, it feels like West Coast and Geelong will really set the scene for who's available at our pick. If the Cats are super locked in on Clark, that means Tsatas will probably slide all the way through to St Kilda. Depending what WCE do in that scenario - particularly if they go for local talent - there's a decent chance one of McKenzie/Hollands is available for us.
If Clarke is available at cats pick they will deffinetly pick him

The mail seems to be shifting to saying they're willing to pass on him if others slide. Probably confident they get him back for nothing in two years. :rainbow:

If Busslinger is still available at our first pick then he’s almost definitely best available. Was firmly inside the top 8 or so players in the pool until injury wiped out the back end of his season.
I'm just curious given the lack of quality defenders in this league, and that many teams could do with one. Why he keeps free falling down everyones rankings? He has gone from potential top 5 pick, to just inside the 10, and now some rankings have him around 15. Another month and Hayes might well just over take him.

I'm not sure how individual clubs feel but I just don't rate him much at all. Given the lack of key positions prospects at the pointy end of the draft, I'm concerned that no one seems too enamored with him. He might have been rated highly earlier in the season but nothing is pointing to that being the case right now.

I've heard Phillipou say in two interviews that he would love the opportunity to move interstate, so I can't see it being that. Maybe it's just a perception people have because he comes across as a bit arrogant. Dunno.

One of our ITK posters indicated 'red flags' regarding Phillipou back on the 28/08, and that we wouldn't be targeting him.

I love a bit of confidence with the kids coming through as well, but perhaps it's a fine line in some cases.

His shoulder reco and not being able to play in the second half of the season could contribute.

Apparently someone thinks it a destination choice. Wants to go to a Victorian club.

Personally hope busslinger slides to us to force us to finally draft a key defender and address the biggest weakness on the list

I agree in part and I do rate Busslinger and Hayes at your 1st pick, but I think you have all the ingredients already on your list

Spine:

Jones
Darcy
Bont
Naughton
Lobb

Play Keath as the 3rd tall defender, JUH as the 3rd tall forward

If you really want a developing spine player/ruck, someone like Harry Barnett is perfect for pick 21, or Van Es at 39 as a KPD

Essentially the issue is that we have zero developing key defenders. Darcy is a forward/ruck in the long term, and other than that, we have one key defender under the age of 30. Jones and Keath both have a year or two left in them.

I get you may want to address it all in one draft, but you can still achieve that by letting the draft come to you with that first pick, then focus more on needs.

This may not go down well on your board, but longterm, I would change it up

Spine

Draftee
Naughton
Midfielder
JUH
Darcy

That draftee could be taken at any level this year, then next year for another

And that's the debate that's been happening here for years.

Thanks for telling us what our list needs, much appreciated.

It's interesting, felt like the board was red hot on Busslinger earlier in the year when it looked like we'd have an earlier pick, then we finished higher and it looked like we'd miss him, now he might fall to us but people seem to have cooled.

I’ve never been warm on him, but I’ve only watched one of his champs games and highlights. Gives me some McAsey vibes, but seems a bit more mobile. I’m not going to say he won’t be good, just hasn’t blown me away.

I still can't believe that Geelong have pick 7 this year as a reward for being able to rort the salary cap. What a joke of a competition.
The leg up Geelong get from being GCs preferred trading partner for whatever reason are just absurd

In 2019 GC gave them pick 11 for pick 27
In 2020 they gave them pick 27 for 56
And now pick 7

Like wtf is up with that? Must be nice to finish high up the ladder yet get a good draft hand every year simply due to GCs incompetence

Buss, Weedle, Van Es.

Replacements for our aging backline in the next 2-3 years.

Lets go.
That would be so ideal, our spine would be so well set up - considering all 3 compliment each other perfectly and you’d bank on at least 2 making the grade.

Then hit the midfield replacements hard next year and we set for dynasty’s my brother

What did Busslinger's ancestors do for work to get that name?
They were more bustling than nearly everybody else in the village.
Only Tommy Busslingest was more bustling than his ancestors.

My thoughts exactly, our backline needs the rebuild, mids are fine, we can hit that up next year with West Jr coming through - Two first round picks next year will remarkably help rebuild our mid for the future.
