AFL MRP hopefully setting the standard for punishing head knocks
Brayden Maynard, Collingwood, has been charged with Striking Daniel Lloyd, Greater Western Sydney, during the second quarter of the 2022 AAMI Community Series Match between Greater Western Sydney and Collingwood, played at GIANTS Stadium on Sunday March 6, 2022.

In summary, the player can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea.
Also no Preuss in round 1
Braydon Preuss, GWS GIANTS, has been charged with Rough Conduct (Dangerous Tackle) against Brodie Grundy, Collingwood, during the fourth quarter of the 2022 AAMI Community Series Match between Greater Western Sydney and Collingwood, played at GIANTS Stadium on Sunday March 6, 2022.

I thought he was miles off getting the ball. Was watching the guys head when he swung the arm too. Even if he did get the ball, he's Collingwood scum, so he can get f’ed.
Maynard knew what he was doing just didn’t disguise it very well. However it’s good to see the AFL is trying to protect the players head. Hopefully the tribunal is consistent throughout the year.

He got the hands on to the footy and the GWS rat hit his head on the ground . If it was a Swans player you would be spewing ffs
He hit the ball then the player, then the player hit his head on the ground

Him hitting the ball first would be the only thing you could argue to say it was accidental contact but at normal speed it 100% looks like he only hits the player

Saved by slowmo imo

And after the deflection off the ball , the contact is more to the neck region.

Which is still high contact. Anything above the shoulders should be considered high and punished accordingly

Dusty's high-fend offs to the throat immediately spring to mind

These have been freed the past two years.

any AFL/VFL hitting an opponent above the shoulder should be suspended.

Rugby Union’s law has always been above the armpit… the leaguies is shoulder hence why they get so many “accidentally” bouncing up to connect with jaw etc.
Bottom line is it is just a game and the safety of all participants is more important than winning the game. Jeopardise that safety and pay the price.

2 weeks seems a bit rough for the Maynard hit - it looked like he wanted to spoil, realised he wasn't going to impact the contest in time, so sort of pulled out... but if you do that you've got to protect the other player, and he didn't.

Don't think it was intentional but he hit Lloyd high and he could have avoided it, so it's got to be something.

Interesting article about past & present funding. Swans around middle of the table. Saints receive the most of any Vic club.

I keep thinking of Danny Frawley 💔

Rubbish if it's accidental , hit the hand and footy and he only got knocked out when hits his head on the ground . So if Heens takes a speccy and his knee hits the head and knocks the bloke out do we suspend him . Society has gone too f ing soft . Believe me i don't want anyone injured , but an accident is an accident . Might as well have no body contact at all . I saw in girls game on the weekend a girl had her head over the footy and the oppo takes her out , that's what should be banned , as most of the time that can be avoided

Following on from the Sam Edmunds tweet posted above by Ticky009;

COVID top up rules released by the AFL;

The 'Northern' clubs will have access to their own VFL sides as well as players from standalone VFL clubs.
Our VFL aligned clubs are Northern Bullants and Werribee.

Brisbane gets Port Melbourne (and Coburg).

No explanation in the article as to how the VFL clubs were allocated.

Access rules;
Clubs will have until Friday to nominate a group of up to 20 top-up players
If a club is down to 30 already listed available players as a result of the COVID health and safety protocols, a club may will be allowed to activate a player from their contingency list to participate in training.
If that number falls below 28 available players, then the club will be able to pick the player to feature in an AFL game but the clubs will need to prioritise the selection of AFL-listed players where possible. Only if the number of available players is impacted by COVID protocols – and not through regular injury and fitness issues – will a top-up player be eligible to play.
