We don’t need Gus
I think he would be a great get:
  • Mundy and Fyfe would both need to retire for us to fit Gus, Johnson and Erasmus in the centre square
  • Ras and Johno would be denied opportunities at the top level in 2023
  • Chapman won't get his chance at the centre bounce
  • He will take 600-650k away from key players that need to be re-signed at the end of 22/23 (there is a lot)
  • Hasn't got a good record with disposal efficiency or turnovers and is just another mid that doesn't kick goals (we don't have enough of them)
  • Makes attaining Jackson much much harder

And where is Brodie, Brayshaw and Serong playing?

Can someone explain how Ethan Hughes got a 3 year extension at end of last year.

2 years too long.
To be fair our half back/defence depth not even 2 to 3 years ago was horrid. Hughes has been solid and reads the ball well.
You’d wouldn’t have predicted Chapman, Young, Logue, Walker, Cox to suddenly be as good as they are. No way
We’ve had Duman, S Hill, Tucker at times. It’s amazing

If we get Angus it would essentially be to replace Mundy. If Angus resigns with Melbourne then we could convince Mundy to go around one more year.

Either scenario is fine with me. I don’t believe Angus is going to be that expensive. The compo draft pick likely end of first round and Melbourne would let that go (ie not match) because End of First round ($500k-$600k for four years or thereabouts) compensation (band 2) wouldn’t be any different to band 1 compo (first round pick immediately following their first pick. In fact if they win the premiership they would essentially get the same pick. Daniher was paid $700k- $750k per year to get Essendon band 1 compo.

Hughes is handy depth at Peel. The third year of his contract they may move to the rookie list. If there were a bunch of injuries he would be a good replacement for Chapman or Logue.

Wilson yesterday looked like someone who thought he should have been some chance of playing with 6 COVID outs. The previous two WAFL games he was solid but yesterday he was no good and perhaps a realisation how far down the pecking order he is.

Likely List changes: Valente (retired), Mundy (retired), Wilson (retired/delisted), Hamling (goodwill trade), Blakely (delisted), Crowden (delisted), Lobb (unknown - likely trade)

Blakely and Crowden were delisted and added to the rookie list and I’ve not seen a lot to make me thing they’ll go around again.

Ins (speculative): Mid Season draft pick (one of our rookie list players to be elevated to the primary list), free agent Angus Brayshaw, 3 primary list ND selections, 2 Rookie list additions.

Personally I don’t see Luke Jackson coming and Tim English heads West he is more likely bound for West Coast. He would be their number one ruck with injury prone NikNat to come off the pine. If Lobb does leave we will need to scour the league for an adequate ruck/forward to replace him. Hopefully this is where we are looking in the mid season draft and Benning who is miles off at the moment comes on well at Peel league next season.

If we had the choice between Angus and one more year of Mundy, I would choose Mundy? Angus doesn't even come into consideration.

2 years too long.
Got it at the end of 2020/start of 2021 after he had just played a career best season for us (finished 6th in the doig iirc) and was an integral part of our backline, which had at least like 3 long term injuries at any one time. Always felt 3 years was a year too long but i think that had something to do with the fact that he spent like 5 years on the rookie list. Think 2 years would have been fine. Unfortunately for him we had way too much depth down back after he came back from his injury so he's gonna be playing for peel for the rest of his career.

Don’t mind Gus and Melbourne may let him go if they got a second for him, and ease their cap.
as for us he would allow us to do two things: either pick for needs completely..lelite tall forward or an elite small forward.

OR

trade our first out for a high pick in 2023

with Erasmus, Johnson and Brayshaw we would not need midfielders for two or three years and Mundy and Fyfe are covered

Angus is a free agent.

Trying to give as much as I can without getting peeps in trouble but I’m pretty positive we’ll get one of Jackson or Gus. Too much swirling about both. One has a family pull but is valued very highly by Melbourne, one feels they aren’t valued too highly and has a different family pull.

We also had the Richmond mate come on here give goss on Brayshaw

Crowden is a rookie so doesn’t count in the three

Technically it doesn’t but we’ve been delisting and re-rookie listing players for years and will probably do the same this year.

Delisting Crowden would still indirectly free up a spot.

Honestly Valente, Blakely, Crowden and probably Wilson, as said before, are good as gone already. Mundy retiring or trades could potentially change the situation slightly but we’re probably looking at one tough decision at most atm.

As for who’d get delisted and re-rookied Hughes seems a logical choice. There’s nothing stopping us from putting him on the rookie list - he just has to stay there two years or get paid out (the latter won’t happen).

No way in hell Jackson comes over this season. It'll be Gus which is a short sighted decision.

Surely you don't cut best 22 players?

Not suggesting we do - however Mundy may wish to retire and Colyer at 31 may consider it.

I had forgotten about Valente and missed Crowden off the list.

I’m all aboard the Gus train, would be a very solid pickup imo. If Brayshaw has a place in the premiers best 22, he has a place in ours.

Of course he does, but for whom? Does it set Driz, Johnson or Erasmus' progression back if he comes next season and moves straight into the 22?

And, how then do Chapman, Clarke, Young and Logue become midfielders!😜
