Just on potential Lobb replacement, what about young Tom De Koning at Carltank? No idea of his contract status but is an athletic 22yo fwd/ruck.

I think he would be a great get:
  • Mundy and Fyfe would both need to retire for us to fit Gus, Johnson and Erasmus in the centre square
  • Ras and Johno would be denied opportunities at the top level in 2023
  • Chapman won't get his chance at the centre bounce
  • He will take 600-650k away from key players that need to be re-signed at the end of 22/23 (there is a lot)
  • Hasn't got a good record with disposal efficiency or turnovers and is just another mid that doesn't kick goals (we don't have enough of them)
  • Makes attaining Jackson much much harder
His kicking is fantastic. It's just that he kicks into the forward fifty a lot so that effects disposal efficiency. He's a 70 metre player often though in that he runs 10-15 metres and then kicks it 55metres. He can also play half back and wing as well as onball. He's played mostly wing in recent years while playing at half back a lot this year. If Mundy retires then he'd be a great addition rotating all over the ground. One attribute he has that we are lacking in a but is burst speed out of the middle. Andy is quick but Angus would be quicker over 10-15 metres.

Getting him depends on salary cap space. In my opinion we'd have to be able to front load the contract to make our salary cap work long term. It all depends on whether some of the rumours about Freo having a ton of cap space opening up are true or not. While no one could be 100% certain of how much space we have it does seem logical that the players we signed to long term deals would earn more of their salary during the years we were rebuilding the list. Im not sure what Mundy will do but even if he plays on then his contract would not be significant. I'd only go hard at Angus if Mundy was retiring though.

Apparently Hamling has his contract front loaded so he will earn far less in the final year of his contract as the clubs wants to be able to help him extend his career by making him tradable. If he gets traded then that frees up more salary space. Walters has signed on for next year but on a greatly reduced contract compared to his previous one. Fyfe contact was believed to be front loaded which makes sense that he gets less money as he gets towards the end of his contract. Lobb is the same. We have Andrew and Sean Darcy signed on for far lower contracts then they're worth now too.

Technically it doesn’t but we’ve been delisting and re-rookie listing players for years and will probably do the same this year.

Delisting Crowden would still indirectly free up a spot.

Honestly Valente, Blakely, Crowden and probably Wilson, as said before, are good as gone already. Mundy retiring or trades could potentially change the situation slightly but we’re probably looking at one tough decision at most atm.

As for who’d get delisted and re-rookied Hughes seems a logical choice. There’s nothing stopping us from putting him on the rookie list - he just has to stay there two years or get paid out (the latter won’t happen).
I'd say Hamling will want to be traded if possible or even accept a payout and retire if he cant get his body right before the end of the year. Meek would be crazy to not look at his options even though he is contracted. Possibly Sturt as well.

I hope we can keep Sturt but the lack of opportunity isnt helping that hope. We have a lot of players OoC at the of year so Bell and Co are going to need to go to work.

Sturts situation is a lot different to someone like Clark leaving for opportunities.

Sturt has been injured for a very large portion of his time at the club so hasn't had continuity in stringing together WAFL games to perform to the expected standard and put himself in line for selection.

He's only starting to get that this year and whilst he hasn't been racking up the stats, he's shown he can make the most of his limited opportunities kicking for goal. Hit whatever other markers he's been set and he'll make the team soon enough.

Agree fully. I just hope he does.

Ras and Johnson are key to keeping our premiership window alive after the next three years. We trade for Gus and they are kept out of the side. They will not sit around at Peel waiting for opportunities to come.

Nope. They aren't even competing for the same positions. Brayshaw's a half back and wing who started his career as an onballer but hasn't played there for 3 years+

Mate Angus is throwing a sook because Goodwin won't play him in the midfield. He has made that abundantly clear. He will only come to Freo to play in the midfield hence our dilemma.

One thing I do think about Sturt is that he could be a better AFL player than he is currently producing at WAFL. If you've seen the games the non Fremantle Peel players are probably the worst standard we've had in a while. I think Sturt's been open more than his stats suggest but the kicking to him leaves a lot to be desired.

100% agree. Think I commented similar on another one of my posts.

Him in the seniors he'd get better delivery into the fwd 50. Only needs a few marks and set shots at goal and he'll be kicking at least a couple a game 😊

Trying to give as much as I can without getting peeps in trouble but I’m pretty positive we’ll get one of Jackson or Gus. Too much swirling about both. One has a family pull but is valued very highly by Melbourne, one feels they aren’t valued too highly and has a different family pull.

We also had the Richmond mate come on here give goss on Brayshaw
Ploise be Jackson

Love Luke Jackson. Don't love what it may cost us. He is tracking primarily as a No 1 ruckman, that is what the Dees are preparing him for (i.e. Gawn's successor). Does he want to play as a backup to Darcy with the rest of the time forward? Is that even the best use of him? He could be a contested ball beast, a fitter, more football intelligent Nic Nac.

Those saying Angus (free agent) doesn't fit in our team, should think about how Jackson fits in our team with Darcy - especially given the cost it will take to get him.
