For a six month contract, having Hartley as an additional kpp depth option makes a lot of sense with our second pick, if we don’t have a better longer term tall option with our first pick.
Best case scenario we don’t need him and the only difference to our list is that he gets paid a bit of extra cash
He’s already at the club so can make an immediate impact if given the callup.

I don't think we'll take two 18 month contract kids, because I don't think they'll cut hard enough at the end of the year to justify it. Which would mean there's a pick available for a 6 month emergency depth option. Why not, I think.

Agreed, while I think it’s unlikely we hand out two 18 month deals out of the draft it wouldn’t surprise me if we draft two blokes who remain on the list into next year.

With the way we operate, it's very rare that we cut an end of year rookie after 12 months - I can't see us doing it after 6 months unless it's someone like Hartley where it was only ever going to be 6 months.
Mid season draft is still new to everyone. Hard to say where the club is at. I think a lot of lads would love the 6 month opportunity to prove themselves.
I reckon we will go one of the players linked to us ... Derkson, Dawson, Bauer... and then one from left-field with our second pick

I think Dawson is more than 78kg, that would be an old measurement
It shouldn’t be any sort of objective. If anything the opposite applies if we are looking for short term depth.. A player already on our VFL list has to spend no time transitioning into club culture and game plan etc.
To imply we should bypass Hartley because he wouldn’t improve our VFL side due to him already being in our VFL side.... is nonsense.

Absolutely, however, I'd be curious about the more pragmatic opinions of player managers.
Look all the lads I know who missed the system. There managers all said take what ever you can get.
