He seems to be the best of the mids who could realistically make it to us, and I think we have a clear need (in midfield as well as everywhere else on the ground, other than medium forward).

We're gonna get Bauer aren't we?

COLLINGWOOD

List chasm:
Key-position players – ideally at both ends of the field. Collingwood has only had 25 goals from key forwards this season – ranked 17th in the competition. But now with Jordan Roughead retiring and Nathan Kreuger on the inactive list, while the likes of Jack Madgen, Charlie Dean and Will Kelly remain sidelined, the Pies should also be on the hunt for a key defender.

Possible number of draft selections: 2 (first selection Pick 9)

Draftees to consider: If they go defence, Williamstown intercept backman Kallan Dawson, who’s shown tremendous development this season and has nominated 18-month contract terms, is a hot chance to be snapped up by the Pies if he’s still on the board, while Northern Bullants’ Mutaz El Nour would also be in the mix. If they opt for a forward, 191cm North Adelaide prospect Jacob Bauer or 195cm Peel Thunder ruck-forward Wade Derksen would be good options.

All sound Like solid Selections.

Not sure who I really want us to Pick - Pretty much be a Tall

There's some competition for KPP - again. Which means Collingwood really has to nail our pick/s. I hope we take two because as I said before, it's worth having the full list and chopping them at the end of the year. What's the harm? Not a lot.

Espically IF we take someone on 6 Month Deal so we can at least Check Them Out/Give them a Go and IF we don't rate them we just let them go at Seasons End

Interesting to see Kallan Dawson has nominated an 18 month contract term also with possible ties to us

It’s probably more an indication that he has had interest from multiple clubs, and can therefore afford to demand more favourable terms.

I understand this logic but what are we rating them on?

Training form and personal contact for sure.
VFL / state league form can be seen wherever they are playing.
AFL form?
Do we give games to a player to see what he's like at the senior level if he's not earnt it?
Before we do the same for our existing players.

They've got to be a realistic chance of making it at senior level before we drfat them I believe.

Well that's it... I've watched the video on El Nour and he seems like such a well spoken and likeable kid. I can't help but hope we pick him up now.

Sounds like he can actually play though, which is a significant bonus. Was listed as 192cm but they reckon he might be a smidge taller and he has those Dustin Fletcher-esque Inspector Gadget arms.

I don't work at the Club so I don't know how they would

Yes, 6 months isn't enough time, and I don't think we would or should consider doing that. I just don't go along with the idea that we could bring in someone mid-season with the view that he could be axed a few months later. Taking one player tomorrow night seems reasonable, but if there's no-one we really rate left by pick 9 we may not even bother. I'd be very surprised if we used a second pick, but if we do take anyone (at all) it should be someone they see as being on the list in 2023 and beyond!

think the last 2 games have changed our thinking around this.

The pool for 6 month contracts will be smaller and with our team performing over the past 2 weeks, the club is probably less inclined to go for a 'break glass' approach.

The 6 month thing is relevant if you're contending and in need of a role.
For us, finishing 8th or 10th doesn't matter this year.

i'm expecting us to go future/future.
Most of those will be 18th month contracts i'd expect as they are 'in demand' from multiple clubs.

So its down to players we'd be happy to take in the upcoming rookie draft at end of the year.....

while Derksen and Ramsden have also been linked with Collingwood if they get through.

While HS thinks in the unlikely chance Dawson gets through to pick 9 we'll take him. But thats a big if.
