Outside of Talls the next Thing on our List would been a Inside Mid who can Win a Clearnce and Carmichael seems to fit that Bill and also a Tall Inside mid at Measuring 189cm

Lmao at the melts over not selecting a KPP with one of the final picks of the most speculative draft of the year…

The KPP that made sense for us was Derkson and he was off the table by our pick. I've got no issues with the club passing on the other KPP. I did like Mutaz but as an interceptor not full back.

This imaginary quality tall wasn’t ever going to be available in the MSD. We already have a long list of young unknown talls on our list… maybe it’s better to work out if any of them are any good before bringing in more of the same just for the sake of it.

I'd hope I'm not imagining anything, and I said as much in the post you quoted. The issue isn't ANY one draft or ANY one choice, much less El Noury and this draft. I'm glad we went best available with our first pick on this occasion as we look like we got a big young mid with some real potential tonight. It's a broader, longer term issue we have. We get to points like this MSD and it pinpoints my focus on the holes on our list.

Therefore it appears to me that the club has established a long term recruitment philosophy that has failed to bring in sufficient quality talls, specifically key forwards, over a significant period of time. I don't care how it's fixed, as long as it happens. I'd reeeeally like to see something from the club to prove me wrong someday soon.

This is the midseason draft thread so forgive me if I thought you were talking about the midseason draft.

who where the 5 players the Collingwood recruiting manager rated ???

one of them was Carmichael the other 4 where ??

If I was to guess it would have also been Culley, Dawson, Ramsden, Derkson and Massimo. Yeah I know that make 6…

Would have been happy with any of them, other than Dawson. I only throw him in because of the media links of us to him.

I'm really happy we picked up Carmichael. A perfect list fit for us. An inside clearance mid who goes forward and kicks goals. A nice size at around 190cm and big bodied. Production at state level. A booming and accurate kick with a good kick to handball ratio. Right in that sweet age profile at 22. Decent pace and good endurance. And it means we're less likely to need to target mids, and I hope therefore more likely to focus on KPP, in the ND at years end. Can't ask for much better. Lets hope he manages the step up to AFL now

I’ll do that while I give time to the young talls on our list and not jump to conclusions that they are all duds. I think we all realise it’s a list in transition for very well established reasons.

No need to strawman me Tim, I've drawn no such conclusion regarding AJ and Krueger for example.

Again, long term KPF philosophy up to this point is yielding poor results at senior level. This is an unfortunate reality.

When we have quality tall forwards playing at a good level and giving poor Checkers a break, this will have been amended. Not before.

Edit: falling asleep on the couch... Good night mate.

There were a few other players I was keen on. El Nour and O'Neill are two I really liked. But I can't really fault the result. Carmichael is an excellent selection and the vacant list spot will be handy at years end.

That will happen next year when we sign McStay.

Main idea behind this draft was for it to be a list top up opportunity to cover injuries. No one is really using it that way.

We had 2 picks, Carmichael has been highly rated so no issue with taking him.

But given we are light on for key position players, even before the injuries we have, surely taking a speculative tall that we can always delist at the end of the year is better than nobody.

So we can add another speculative tall to the several other speculative talls we have on our list already, of whom the majority will be available for selection within the next few weeks? Really?

I mentioned earlier that I had wanted talls but the more I think about it and the mid season draft the more it makes sense for us to go Carmichael.

The main successes from this draft have been mids. Newcombe, Noble, Snelling, Pickett. It’s a rookie draft so it’s speculative talls or mids. We have enough speculative talls so I’d rather draft for quality talls later in the year and potentially trade which are likely more highly rated than what was available tonight.

The injury list is shrinking though so maybe the club has decided it can utilise the resources it has, and would rather keep its options open in November with a full list of eligible draftees to choose from.

Additionally it’s almost impossible enough to judge a players potential after half a season. 18 months is the minimum you’d need to make a rational decision.

The Essendon fans in their MSrD thread are very salty about overlooking Carmichael at #3. Plenty of potshots at Dodoro.
I definitely thought he was going to essendon for sure.

Or crows at most. But they seemed to be connected to another player as well, so they had to choose.

That'd my bet too. Other than Culley, those were the blokes we were linked to in the media. This isn't a draft where there is any reason for teams to play their cards close at all. We probably didn't bother to have Culley on our list because we knew he was going to WCE.

Technically we don’t have a vacant list spot. One of the two selections we had in the draft was because Krueger was placed on the inactive list due to the injury, but he’s still on our list so come the end of the season that list spot won’t be vacant.
