All Clubs have until Friday to nominate up to 20 players to form their top up "covid contingency list"

Lets all hope that no club has to use anyone from this list
If we do it will be another year affected by covid which the fans, AFL and all Clubs could do without
......
A few bits from AFL article
If a club is down to 30 already listed available players as a result of the COVID health and safety protocols, a club may will be allowed to activate a player from their contingency list to participate in training.

If that number falls below 28 available players, then the club will be able to pick the player to feature in an AFL game but the clubs will need to prioritise the selection of AFL-listed players where possible. Only if the number of available players is impacted by COVID protocols – and not through regular injury and fitness issues – will a top-up player be eligible to play.

While the Victorian-based clubs will have access to players in their state league affiliates, the four northern clubs – Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney and Greater Western Sydney – will have access to their own VFL sides as well as players from standalone VFL clubs.

Was it a taller player?
Could have been Harry Arnold, one of our VFL top ups. I have liked what I have seen from him during the pre-season.
Might be wearing no 60?

Dayne Zorko is set to clock up another Gabba century after continuing his reign as Lions’ captain for a fifth straight season.

Zorko has led the side in 82 matches since taking over full-time captaincy duties from Dayne Beams during the 2018 season.

In that time, he has led by example claiming the Merrett-Murray medal in 2018 and last season and finishing in the top five in 2019 and 2020.

His 550 disposals in 2021 became a career-best as were the 23 goal assists, which ranked fifth across the entire competition.

And it came at no expense to his trademark pressure, ranking in the top 6 in the AFL for tackles and pressure acts.

The 11th post-merger captain of the Club stands to join Michael Voss and Jonathan Brown in the centurion Club if he remains fit throughout 2022.

Last season Zorko joined Voss as a five-time Club champion and his leadership record is now second only to the original Lion King.

The born and bred Queenslander has now led the Lions to three consecutive top four finishes at the end of the home and away season.

The remainder of the Lions’ leadership group for 2022 will be announced prior to the Clubs Round 1 clash with Port Adelaide at the Gabba on Saturday 19 March.

Zorko said he was honoured to once again be chosen by his teammates to be their leader.

“I love this Club, it has a successful history and one of the things our playing group is most proud of has been our ability to put the Lions back in a position where we can contend for the ultimate success,’’ he said.

“I am inspired by the collective desire among my teammates to achieve something special and being entrusted to lead them means the world to me.’’

Zorko and Chris Fagan have been the central figures in the Lions’ resurgence and the Senior Coach says he cherishes the bond the pair have formed.

“He has been a huge supporter and a terrific sounding board for me, and I know his teammates respect and enjoy his positive approach and passion for the Club,’’ he said.

“The ultimate captain is one who sets the example for others to follow and in Dayne we have one of the most selfless footballers I’ve ever come across.

“His ability to win the ball and attack the game on offence is elite but it is his willingness to apply pressure that inspires his teammates and makes him an obvious choice as our captain.”

I wonder how they came to pick the standalone clubs for the northern teams?

That's a real bugger for Kiddy. How disappointing for him, the team and supporters. Hope the club takes its time with him, gets him 100% before bringing him back. I'm sure they will, they have a great track record. Opportunity for Jimmy Madden to press his claim in the back 7. Every cloud etc.

It is exciting to think however, that Kiddy and Hippy will be back around the same time (Kiddy a bit earlier probably). Plenty of time for both players to gain form and confidence for the latter part of the season and finals.

Andy Maher on SEN reckons Zorks is in the top 10 of gettable free agents……🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

Honestly? I don't think that's far off. If Zorks starts to fall off and we start moving past him and a team like the Suns offers him an extra year/pay cheque I could see him taking it.

I think he's a bit too invested into the Lions at this point.

I'm not sure if he's ever really forgiven the Suns for passing on him several times over.

The Suns were an example, but if we were ready to move on from Zorko/offered him a small contract and his choice was to retire or take a one/two year, decent paying contract at another club it would be hard to turn down. Could be his last big payday before retirement.

Mitch Robinson has Covid. Hope he hasn’t spread it to the other boys so close to the start of the season.
