A crappy piece of trivia which may or may not have been said already

Before last week Carlton last won x4 games in a row in 2016, and the last time Carlton won 5 in a row was 2000 .....

I would not be shocked if that was true, the new millennium hasn’t been kind to us

Pretty good chat with Bucks and Gerard on SEN this morning, most of it was around Carlton v Collingwood, where both sides are at and the rivalry. Worth a listen in the build up.

Interesting responses they got that most of the fans found the rivalry still pretty real.
I guess it’s a generational thing (90s kid) - I don’t have any love for Collingwood but I also don’t irrationally despise them like I do *. The only player of theirs I really dislike is De Goey.
Tbf I think most rivalries aren't as real as they used to be and are mostly fan driven. The players on field don't have the hate and emotion in the game they used to.

Except for perhaps the Showdown, which still often has some spice.

Very true
When the players started turning pro in the mid to late 90’s or it was common
That’s where it ended
It became a business and a job for the players to earn good money

We don’t need to do anything but follow the Voss process and let the cards fall. If we go out in straight sets, Cripps will monster everyone to make amends in the years to follow.
Straight sets in ‘94! I forget what happened in ‘95???

Diesel put it on the next generation to step up - and they did

bit of a difference though, we were in the GF in 1993.....

Vossy got our heads in the right space against GWS and Sydney and he will do it week after week. Back our coaching team in, as they have shown they have the ability to actually coach.
I think the loss that we had against GC left Vossy putrid. It’s not that GC are not an ok side and they played very well against us it was that we played like a bunch of marshmallows. He would have read the riot act to them.

One of numerous things that I really love about Vossy and the coaching team is that when something is identified eg our shocking third quarters, the coaching team works on it and improves it.

I see this game as exactly like the GC game and am hoping that we play like stonehard baggers.

Cant see us losing but we show up like we did with GC it’s a possibility.

we won about 13 in a row in 2000

looked awesome till Kouta injured his knee

our midfield was miles ahead of * but they had us covered elsewhere on the ground

in 1995 we won 16 straight to win the flag, and then about 6 or 8 at the start of the following season!

Man, what went wrong in 96?

Glass half empty view of injuries:

McGovern
Williams
Mckay
Pitto
Martin

All very good (and in McKay case ‘champion) players. Huge losses.

Glass half full:
  • Williams is replaced by Stocker so the loss is not that significant.
  • not sure Pitto and TDk and SOs is a good combo so perhaps Pitto isn’t the loss we thought
  • Martin (after accounting for mckay v Carroll) is really only substituting for one of the pretty effective mosquitos.

Rather than seeing it as 5 big outs it’s probably more like 2:
  • McKay for Carroll is massive
  • McGovern for Plowman I think is big because McGovern could fast start us in transition a lot and Plowman doesn’t. MCG can also third man up and intercept.

I think most would agree with this. Mckay is the big one, but I'd say we are covering the others pretty well.

Even Plow seems to be taking more intercept marks and more attacking with his disposals.

The fear though is that most of those guys are out injured for quite a while and we are very near the end of our depth.

The team we are rolling out right now is still good, but a few more injuries to key players, particularly our talls, and I think we'll be in trouble since you could add Jones and McDonald to your list.
