Motlop, Carroll (sub) and Newnes will make way for Martin, Kennedy and kemp (sub).

Big Sam D straight in for Weiters to help out Young. Plowman as our 3rd tall.

LOB and Cottrell to run the wings all day.

Dominate out of the centre with Cripps, Walsh, George, Cerra, Kennedy and Dow.

Focus on 2-way running to help out our backs.

Wouldn't surprise if both Durdin and Hayes come in for this game
It will be interesting to see if two weeks is enough time to be considered. I am assuming Hayes knows our processes, he could slot into a role. Thinking Hayes can play alongside a Cotts or Newnes styled player. He is a good natural winger at VFL level, so hopefully that can translate into AFL.

I am assuming Fullbacks don't exactly need a heap of knowledge, just play near your man, simplify his role and it should be okay.

I would expect Durdin to be straight in. He was obviously in good form at Glenelg (was picked to rep SA against WA). So he doesn’t need to show form or fitness presumably. He’s not going to learn anything about our system playing as the lone tall at VFL level. If he is going to be at all useful while Weitering is away he needs to get in and get going.

You just replied to a post where I stated that both will probably play this week

Id be surprised if we brought in 2 non-AFL players straight into the seniors in the same week.

Bottom line is AFL is a step above and both players will have to get used to the extra intensity. On a big stage as well Friday night footy vs Essendon.
Yes Hayes knows our structures, but he still hasn't been playing with our senior team.

Hayes could go past our wingers in time maybe, but I don't see a need to bring him straight in, especially if we are playing Durdin already.

I assume we'll play Durdin, but there's a small chance we go with Young/Plowman/Kemp as our 3 tall defenders.

I'd be surprised if they bring Durdin straight in. I think they give Kemp first crack at Weiters position even if a little undersized. Essendon only have the one monster in Wright who Young can cover.

Give Durdin a couple of weeks to settle and learn the game plan and unleash him against Richmond, Fremantle, StKilda who we will need him for.

Does anyone else feel like me? This game coming up is so important. We’ve been very good this year at 8-3 but I feel like the wheels are falling off with so many out. If we can win this and get a few more over the next month it’ll galvanise the group so much. But. Without Weitering we could be falling quite rapidly.

It’s amazing I feel so low on our team with what’s transpired. That Silvagni kick or Walsh missed free could have been so big. And I’m still reeling the loss with what’s happened at Carlton the last 10–15 years.

**** I hate byes.

Both Durdin and Hayes aren't project players, they are ready to go types

Last game, * played Wright, Jones and a resting ruckman, with Stringer likely back as well

I think we will play Young, Durdin and Plow

We have experimented with wings all year, Hayes could be next

I agree re 3-2.

At 11-5, 6 games to play.

Go 3-3, we'll be close to top 4.

4-2 or 15 wins is usually enough.

Cats )G), Giants, Adelaide, Lions, Dees, Pies.

Reckon Rd 23 might determine whether we're top 4 or not....

Sometimes 16 wins just gets you to 6th on the ladder - and this year is heading to be like that given we are 5th despite only 3 losses.

The key games will be against those right around us - namely Richmond Fremantle Saints Cats Lions and Dees - each of those become 8 point games in deciding the Top 4.

We really will need to take it one game at a time since any of our opponents can win if they’re on and/or we are off a bit. But our players are committed to playing for each other and as a team so I’m confident they will apply themselves from here on out.

Hayes is in our VFL team, there is no real difference in promoting someone from our VFL team and Hayes, you would hope he's been training with the blues in some regards since the start of the year.

He certainly can take a contested mark..

Suggest he's been instructed to not fly against Harry or King Charles...or even SOS.
Martin has been working hard this year. He provides as a forward target and doesn’t mind going up in pack marks but even if he gets hands to it first he has been dropping a few of them. Ideally he can make the ball stick to his hands a bit more.

but not a marking 'threat' in the forward 50 unless he gets on the end of a lead. not really a pack mark sort of guy which i would class as a marking 'threat' in the f50
He did it semi-regularly at the Suns, playing behind the ball in particular as an extra man in defence.

He's definitely capable of it but it's a bit hard for him here when you have big Harry busting up every pack and now Charlie this year. He's playing as a small/medium with us as opposed to the medium/3rd tall he was with the Suns (when forward, which wasn't all that often relative to how much we play him forward)
