Weitering —> Kemp (we’ll be slightly undersized but it’s the best we can do)

Motlop —> Philp (kicked 3 in the VFL today)

Newnes —> Mirkov (keeps Cripps/JSOS out of the ruck, can also throw him down back if needed for a bit of height)

Cottrell —> Williamson (play him as a winger/forward, has had 3 great games in the VFL in a row)

Dow —> Kennedy (Dow stiff, but Kennedy is better and this keeps the same midfield dynamic)

FB - Newman, Young, Plowman

HB - Saad, Kemp, Docherty

M - O’Brien, Cripps, Williamson

HF - Fisher, C. Curnow, Philp

FF - Durdin, Silvagni, Owies

FOL - De Koning, Walsh, Hewett

I/C - Stocker, Kennedy, Cerra, Mirkov, Newnes (sub)

Voss mentioned marchbank as a possibility which is interesting. He has played 2 games (admittedly 3/4 and a half) so at least has had some match practice/touch. Train him hard over the break and it might be a good idea.

Sounds like Kemp will definitely come in as a backman

Yes, they're my changes assuming no other injuries
Maybe Newnes gets dropped and Marchbank medi sub (can play back, forward)

If we are looking at a key defender in the midseason draft, I'd consider Stefan Radovanovic. He is already plugged into our system via the VFL side, has speed, contests well and has strength. Just has to not bite off too much with his kicking.

Sounded like Akuei did okay in the VFL today. Those who watched might be able to confirm or deny this.
Radovanovic's 192cm and 88 kg's, plays taller than he appears. Probably BOG today against the Bullants, but he's no Weitering or Jones.

Those who referred to Voss mentioning Marchy in the presser…it was in relation to a question about what possible players we have in line to replace Weiters, but I don’t nesseaarily think it was an endorsement for him to play vs dons, it was merely that only he and Kemp are the only fit ones of this type of player. Marchy has literally played 3 quarters against a stand-alone VFL team (Frankston) in which he was very good and then the very next game he plays less than a half and comes off due to a knee on knee contact that would happen 10 times a game. Voss talks a lot about reliability and durability and despite the JW injury I reckon he’d want to see at the very least one more VFL game before thinking about pulling the trigger at AFL level.

My changes would be:

In: Martin, Kemp and Kennedy

Out: JW, Motlop and Dow

The three ins are all good in the air, something we lacked badly in against the pies, Kennedy was a massive out.

Who is though?

He does play taller, is strong and has great acceleration.

Kemp, Parks and Plowman aren't really any taller.

And Gov and Marchy, but I think we're full as with these types. Rado deserves to get an AFL opportunity though.

Maybe someone via the msd in for Weitering.

Id give Motlop a rest and maybe Carroll also.

Think Newnes needs a spell too.

Id keep Dow in the team

Not sure on Dow keeping his spot with (if) Kennedy’s return.
Vossy only rated with a small impact or something along those lines when questioned - thought he went alright.

I don’t think Radonanovic is big enough to play as a 2nd tall back at AFL level. I see him as more of a third backman and we already have plenty of those.

STOP.

PLAYING.

CRIPPS.

IN.

THE.

RUCK.

Like if you agree.
I don't think we do it for fun... Silvagni gives us all the minutes he can - he is clearly playing under duress, and the padding on his leg gets bigger every week. Someone needs to do it, and we have a remarkable lack of big bodies at the moment.

Obviously we are paying a big price at present, but... Kennedy really can't ruck, we've tried him a couple of times, and he just doesn't know how.

I found it interesting Marchy was mentioned so there may be a view that if he breaks down again it might as well be in the 1s especially given our backline injury crisis and even if we select a key back in the MSD I doubt he would come straight in.

Voss has shown a propensity to make changes when we lose and whilst we were gallant in defeat today there were a few who were pretty poor so it wouldn’t surprise me if there are 3 or 4 changes.

Weitering obviously comes out so Kemp has to come in almost by default and it wouldn’t surprise me if any or all of Carroll, Motlop, Newnes and Dow are dropped to make way for Kennedy, Martin and Boyd.

I also think that Stocker would want to lift his game too although I doubt he gets dropped this week given there are others in front of him on the chopping block and I’d still prefer him to Williamson but he is lucky that Williams is injured.

Mirkov. It's time (assuming his ankle is ready).
The camel's back has broken.

191 cms with limited aerial ability and not enough physicality or reach for the next grade up. Also not stable in his knees. We can just have him on our covid protocol list if required.

Akuei is so far off AFL standard it's not funny. Hard no
