Ridley trade suggestions are ludicrous. He is a star & will bounce back. Staggering….

Disagree. Aside from intercept marks and kick-ins, he gets nothing. Doesn't drive from half back (there's another 4 blokes that do that) and he doesn't demand cheap marks/kicks. Literally need him to take 10 intercept marks to ton up. Also plays tall and small, so often has to play too accountable.

I have him and I'm panicking. Another poor performance and he's gone next week for sure. Hope he bounces back and we can put it down to the fact that your mobs midfield goes spanked by Danger and Co.

OK ....I'm officially confused

I have him

It amazes me that this thread is 31 pages long. It also concerns me for how long next weeks will be. 😀
I did post in the OP ....this should be a "short thread" ....and could you be beguiled ?

Trying to hold fire this week, it's always better to have two weeks of information rather than one, and don't mind using the boost next week to fix my side.

Owens or Dixon > Martin is the big one for me this week and appears relatively straight forward provided the player traded out gets dropped. I would like to do this trade this week so I have more flexibility the week after.

The week after, I think Mead and Magginess might be likely types to trade into, and depending on Treloars performance, I may try and trade him to a premo defender to maximise forward rookies who appear to have greater scoring potential than the backline rookies.
Just on Maginness, we have Breust and Day likely back this week and a lot on our board believe Maginness will make way. I hope he stays in as I picked him hoping it might click for him this year.

He finished the game off well and looks super fit, but he’s a big watch if you don’t already have him.

I guess what I am trying to stay is, do not pick unless he is selected in round 3.

129 BE this week so we don't need him to have a blinder but tonne up this week and next and the damage will be manageable in terms of price drop. He'll get ample opportunity to intercept mark as the ball should live in the Lions F50. The worry is he matches up against Daniher from the first bounce because the Bombers defence stinks.

I got sucked into the preseason hype, people saying he's back to his early 2021 form, playing loose, taking all kick-ins, etc. Saw him on the weekend and remembered how much of a lazy campaigner he is. Though it could be because the Bombers got destroyed.

Dropped a 52 & 68 last year, as well .....still think he's a Top 10 DEF for total points .....Rutten wants the ball in Ridley's hands ....want him intercept marking .....the Coach's will find a way

Stop listening to Dons fans. They're all brownlow medallists at the Dons.
We went thru this in pre-season. He was stripped of the kick-ins coz he was rated close to the worst in the comp after the first month last year. He was scoring like a demon for us, but in reality he wasnt helping the Dons out much. Then he copped a knock and had either rnd 5,6,7ish(???) off, and thats when their coaching staff made the move. Good coaching coz it helped them a lot. Guys like Redman/Hepp etc took over the duties from memory. What's good for SC isnt always good for a footy team.
Unfortunately though Ridley's SC avge took a massive nosedive and never really recovered for 2021. Still hasnt recovered. Likely wont improve much without generous amounts of kick-ins...which they now know not to give him. Good player regardess of kick-ins, but he now needs shedloads of something else such as intercept marking to get back to the scoring we remember. Either that or injuries to their preferred options for kick-ins.

Isn’t Ridley’s kicking efficiency rated higher than the OG Gull?

Read all off-season, first time poster here.

Biggest rookie that I am missing is Nick Martin - thinking about dropping Ward, moving Rachele to M8 for next week, playing Hayes and then putting Nick Martin in the emergency forward spot. Would net me 80k and allow for a better team structure this week while only costing one trade.

Also keen to bring Hewett in for McInerney to correct that mistake, but think that I will do that next round if the round one trend continues. Geelong tend to push the zone pretty deep to protect the backline and they allow a lot of uncontested possession on the wings/half back (where McInerney played a lot this week). So I feel that it won't be an 80 gap between him and Hewett this week again (fingers crossed).

Be grateful for any guidance on whether people pull the trigger on Hewett now, whether the Ward to Martin trade is sound and/or any other glaring problems with the team you can see.
Wait till teams drop. A lot of rookies will die this week as teams get better players back. Think Hough may be one of them, MacDonald too. Hough to Martin may be the go. Ward came in to the game under a slight cloud and is a seriously good rookie. You have to give McInerney a second chance after rating him better than Hewett for round one.
Mitchell is a worry had him in my team until it was reported he had groin issues on the eve of round one.
Going to be some yummy upgrade targets if there is a second lacklustre performance by some of the super premos. Steele, Titch, Mills I'm looking at you. Titch's short term problem is that Sam is fiddling the mid mix and it takes time to gel.
I played like 10 rounds last year with Sharp and Highmore warming the pine.
Not overly concerned with SDK back so soon.
the latest madcapped idea.
Whitfield to lizard
Ward to the bin chicken.

71k left to upgrade Hough to Rachele next week.
Hough to Skinner via NOD would give you defensive cover. Then hold your fire this week.

Gets nothing? Get your hand off it. He’s our best distributor by far & now we have Kelly to play as that lock down tall/small, he’ll be looked to as an outlet even more.

As to why he scored badly, you answered that in the last the two sentences of your assessment.

Like many, best start to a season. Used to scrambling with forced corrections this time of year. Last year was my worst yet.

However swinging the changes to add depth and strength. Had Durds and Hayes on bench, so plenty of depth forward. Glory grab of “resurgent” Charlie Curnow cheaply looks a fail with more time seemingly required. Can’t ignore cash cow Martin, so first swap obvious, and facilitates cash for mid “correction”.

On Tom Green bandwagon, was super impressed, will create his own JS. Not overly comfortable dumping Ward after one week, but talk of ankle issue sacrifices him for TG.

Why go early? Doubling down next week barring forced changes. Have Ridley who will likely stay pending closer role analysis, Bowey who I thought may have a more expansive role and with Salem going down didn’t eventuate. Rivers to return leaves him as moderate cash generation. Think my mistake was gambling on a resurgent and fitter Zilliams playing high after coming off the square in praccy games. With Doc back was deployed deeper and fear it will continue. Having said that Docherty is Fantasy Footy royalty when fit and I want him in. Just debating swinging a double change next week with another overlooked due to injury/lack of preseason in Jiath. Doc in for Zac(just enough cash), with strong inclination, but undecided on swinging in Jiath as well.

35 changes available. Barring injury, mids and forwards set for a couple of months. Grundy and Marshall with expensive but likely productive R3 in Preuss, with both Hayes and future DPP Xerri among the forwards has rucks in good shape. Early corrections for what looks like ongoing improved scoring and cash generation is a no brainer, but I do concede ordinary historical results.

Thanks mate!

No trades this week. I want to take a look at another week.

Crisp is my biggest concern. If he spuds it up he's gone. At the moment considering Houston, MacDonald or Hewett as his replacement.

Owens and Ward on watch. I'm eyeing Dylan Stephens or Durdin as possible replacements.

Do you mean Luke Mcdonald? He's a mid only at the moment. Will have to wait until after round 6 and he should get Def. status back.

Too expensive by then ....we may have to stick McDonald in our Mids .. till R6

Obviously not trading him out this week. Simply saying if it looks as bad as it did last weekend, then he's on the chopping block.

I understand you may feel aggrieved hearing some home truths about Ridley as a Dons fan, but dont take wild and cruel kneejerk pot shots at the poor defenceless gulls :thumbsu:
Mighty Gull is an SC Hall of Famer for very good reason, and noone needs respond to those sorts of cheap baseless swipes.

What we need from Dons fans in here is less hype, and more about when Garret McDonaugh is going to get a gig....coz he CAN kick.

Is Dylan Shiel a buy or not ? He went alright.
Dont you worry about Mighty Gull...he'll be just fine :p
