Yep, someone described Martin as the icing on the cake. You put him in a good side and he will break it open.

Over his whole career he has only played one game in a good side. Lets let him settle in and figure out how to do that. Top quality player, reckon he can be a real finisher.

Carlton indicated it was a stressed back for Oscar ... that's a worry. But Cerra and Martin back in, Fogarty out

Isnt Stocker back next week? Not seeing many mentions of him...
Newman is the obvious out for Stocker but he played ok last night so I’d rather stick with him as opposed to Stocker who is not fully match fit yet after a long lay off. Stocker is good but he’s No Sam Walsh so he comes back via the 2s.

Shame Kyle Hartigan probably won't play, weak cheapie behind play right before final siren. Would've liked to seen someone smack him, legally though.

Sicily back will be good for them, don't believe he played in last years game against us.

Last game I went to was this game last year, so hopefully can see a similar result in person. GBs

u will regret not playing Martin..his last 1/4 vs Richmond was a game breaker where he had a major hand in 3 consecutive goals when we needed his brilliance....too valuable to have on the sidelines
I don’t pick the team so he may very well come back in, but who do you propose comes out?

Gov may not be playing this week. Sensing after the Rioli case McGovern is gonna get looked at for the bump. LOB as well they may choose to make an example of him with the throwing the head back thing. Dont agree but after the criticism the AFL copped last week they will want to look tough.

Any idea when the MRO releases findings for yesterdays match?

Nonsense.

It was a sightly off-the-ball shirtfront, a free was paid, end of story. There is nothing they could charge him with which would result in a suspension. A fine, maybe, for rough conduct, body contact, low impact (player didn't even need to come off the field).

I know we brought Young into the club as a key defender, but I think Parks might be a better bet as an Oscar replacement For now.
Parks not really tall enough.
If you play Parks it means Mitch has to step up as key defender. Much prefer he just stick to 3rd tall and intercept as much as he can as it suits him perfectly.
Young has to play and find out what he like as key defender.

OUT: Newman, McDonald (inj), Pittonet, Fisher/Fogarty, Plowman

IN: Williamson/Dow, Young, Cerra, Martin/Dow

I think we need more mobility, and we've got personnel options to inject that through an extra midfield number, or from either end of the ground.

Fisher vs Fogarty is a toss-up for mine, with Fogarty able to play more roles, particularly forward roles.

Dow vs Williamson is a question of which direction we want to go in with Walsh: defensive wing primarily, or moving into the stoppage looks more.

I'm even 50/50 on Martin, and keen to see if Dow can shake things up when we start to get challenged at centre bounces.
We aren’t making 4 unforced changes after beating one of last years grand finalists and there is literally no chance Pitto is dropped this week.
I tend to find good teams are stable teams that don’t make lots of changes unless dictated by injury or really poor form.
IMO Williamson and Dow aren’t forcing any of those guys out at the moment especially to only be played out of position on a wing.

Sorry for the OT post but I can’t seem to find the Carlton vs Brisbane VFL game on Kayo sports - anyone having similar issues or am I just blind?

I want to see us being the bully
I'm expecting at 10+ goals win - make a strong statement

I agree with most on team changes, terrific ins and strengthen our team:
  • In: Cerra, Martin, Young
  • Out: Fog, OMac, Plowman (Setters/ LOB sub)

Premiership bound for 2022 :D

Wonder how long it will be until I can have confidence that we just win these type of games.. Inner Demon and past experience has me terrified we will just throw up a shocker to remind everyone not to get too far ahead of themselves.

There appears to be too much much depth now
If someone is quiet someone else will just pick slack

Agree on the route for Stocker is via the reserves. Hopefully he can find touch quickly, because Newman is a liability with the ball in hand and we would be much better off with a Stocker in the BP

Confucius say: revenge is a dish best served with a 10-goal drubbing.

Pretty sure.
I want to smash them so so bad, like a smashing that we will tell our children about, and they will pass on the story to their children. But realistically I will be happy with a one point win over those bastards.

Too much hunger for spots as well as points to prove. This week will be huge…

Problem with those changes is what it does to the balance of the side.

You've essentially gone with Young for OMac and Martin for Fog, both like-for-like-ish. But then the final change is essentially Newman for Cerra. Leaving us short a mainstay small defender in favour of another mid. That necessitates moving Setters or LOB to the back pocket, which we really don't want to be doing.

There's clearly a plan in place, and a team structure to facilitate it. Don't think we'll be getting too creative with the magnet board just to shoe-horn in good players.

Backline is settled.

Weiters and OMac the preferred KPDs, Young as backup.
Gov the preferred third tall, Plowman as backup, maybe Kemp or Parks at a stretch.
Saad and Williams the drive, Boyd and Williamson likely the backup there.
Doc and Newman the small defenders, with Stocker a fair chance of supplanting Newman.

There's a clear back 7 there, and some obvious depth options. You don't want to mess with that by rotating midfielders through for the sake of it.
