Just putting it there for those that keep shitcanning ROB when he's actually a quite competitive AFL Ruckman not the spud they try to make him out to be.

Compares pretty well with Witts who plays a similar role and is IMO the best ruck in the AFL.
He ROB is the biggest of spuds .Like someone said earlier kicks like a six year old and I’ve been watching afl for 30 plus years and never seen a worse component of a kick than Rob especially when he is process of getting run down. At least Ingerson and J Manson could direct it where they wanted it. His tapping is useless and all he does is get in the way. Strachan is a better ruck in my eyes just doesn’t get given a go cause people coaching and running our club have nfi. Our list management and drafting proves it .

Geezuz… massive overreach there..

Gawn is miles ahead of ROB.

ROB kicks like a 6 year old Auskicker who’s just learning to play the game..

Worst kicking action in the comp by a long margin.

Does have a shocking action but they generally go straight. Just takes 10 mins to hit his boot. I think he's a straighter kick than your boy Keayes.

He is a massive brain and also studying two doctorates while playing as elite athlete. Fair go there.
But yeah not a future ruck I’d think for tap skill.

Ingerson kick was very similar to ROB but lefty from memory

I've seen Draper rip games open, he has something pretty special, can go missing.

I think he'd make a great 1-2 punch with Thilthorpe.

On SM-F926B using BigFooty.com mobile app
It's more than just going missing. He constantly gives away free kicks.

Draper does a highlight reel worthy act every month or so. His terrible year was a part of why Essendon went backwards.

An upgrade of ROB would be helpful.
I'm not sure how you could say he had a good year, unless you didn't actually watch. Went multiple weeks without taking a mark. Hitouts too predictable.
I'm not sure what he has to do with rumours though.
I don't think anyone was suggesting he had a GOOD year.

But the ruck talent across the league is pretty low. You'd struggle to find eight rucks better than him.

By successful teams, are you saying Premier teams? Name them.
Richmond had Nankervis, who's only mediocre. Melbourne and West Coast had good rucks. GWS had nobody, we had Sauce. Bulldogs last year were still playing the corpse of Stefan Martin most weeks. Geelong have never had a decent ruck, neither have Port really. Lions and Swans have only had battlers.

It doesn't matter that much. When we're looking to compete we need someone competent, that's it

And West Coast won the flag with Lycett and Nathan Vardy!! Good mids will offset an average ruck - the Lions won Thurs night with McStay stepping in after McInerney went down in the first 5 mins.

We unfortunately have a ruckman in ROB that can’t jump and a midfield that can’t run, which is a terrible combination, though we did look better as the season went on and the kids were given more time in the middle.

Adelaide Shaun Rehn and Port’s Brendan Lade would be examples of good ruckman - good skills by foot and hand, excellent knock ruckman, strong contested marks, attacking KPF when resting forward and a competent midfielders that can run to position to take part in a chain of ball movement. Someone like them would be a huge upgrade on ROB.

ROB’s hit outs are OK, his contested pack marking is generally very good and his kicking after a mark/set shot is OK. Where ROB is completely f****** useless and a burden to the team is his non-ruck / general play contribution.

His ball skills and positional awareness wouldn’t impress in Amateur League, with the consequence is that he can’t take part in general play as a tall midfielder. He cannot see and cannot dish out a reflex handpass to a player that is free and moving forward, or deliver an accurate pass to a player out wide. If he gets in the way or gains a possession he slows our attacking ball movement and likely sees a turnover.

To perhaps address this deficiency in the longer term ….. I hope we pick up Will Verrall from South.

If only you had like, oh, I don't know... AN ENTIRE FORUM to talk about stuff like that on.

I may as well start rating the entire list based on how much I like their haircut at this point, it would have the same relevance.

Here is a tip for you. There’s a thread that gives the rumours with no discussion. If there is nothing new listed there, there’s nothing new to discuss so if you choose to read this thread there’s a fair chance it’s going to not be new rumours.

This is the trouble where we have a rumour page but it gets full of crap about nothing. The crap ruins the concept of a rumour page
This is the discussion page, there’s a rumours page where you can read only.

Ffs..all this crap about ROB whether he is good, average, our best ruck etc...i just want the best mids we can get and that is priority no 1. We have some quite promising ones but we need more. Whether they rove to the best ruck in the league or a journeyman is way down the care factor for me.
When you go through all the big names mids traded how many have won a flag?
Prestia and Burgoyne would be the only ones that come to mind and they didnt attract huge trade capital because they were overcoming serious knee injuries at the time.

Judd, Beams, Dangerfield, Treloar, Shield, Ablett, Mitchell, Kelly, Neale, Scully, Ward, and even Rockliff to an extent.

Virtually all key components of premiership mid combinations are drafted with a clubs first picks over a few years.

But let's ignore weight of evidence and history because we know best and avoid finishing bottom 3 for 2 or 3 years in a row and then go for talls.

If they can trade in Rankine and JHF they will be geniuses and all will be forgiven.

If they can't get JHF then they need to keep pick 5 and start trying to draft a gun mid with the 1st pick for the next 2 years imo.

I really hope we can hold pick 5 for a guy like phillipou and use a future 1st for rankine and grab michalanney with some traded in later points and if possible (if we still held it), one of the talls at our 2nd
