I watched McAsey pretty closely yesterday at the parade, he played poorly no doubt.

Last quarter he was back at full back, its not hard to believe what you say

If I was a Melbourne club, I'd offer a third for McAsey.

It wasn't a surprise when he was drafted so high. He was a definite first round key tall. His lack of contribution with us is crazy.

While a 3rd is probably fair value for him at the moment, it's also... not exactly worthless, I guess, but not particularly enticing, either. For that kind of return, I'd be more inclined to keep him for the final year of his contract and hope/pray he comes good. If so then we have a decent player (or get better return for trading him), if not then we potentially delist him and lose him for nothing, which isn't that much less than a 3rd rounder, especially if it's late 3rd round.

I am probably wrong but wasn't it until someone got wind of the Crows being after him that he moved up in the Phantom drafts. Earlier most Phantom calls had him in the low teens.
It does show poor scouting by a lot. PA picked up Georgiades at about 18. Most drafts had him lower down. Bergman as a defender went 14 and has shown a much better upside. I have mention Sam De Koning a few time previously at 19. What a steal.

Incorrect.

There was a huge push by many clubs to get it into the end of the 1st round, specifically to get Georgiades.

Port just managed to get there.

So we'll be able to trade ROB for pretty much any ruckman we want in the competition outside of Max Gawn

Who do we like?

Saw Himmelberg at Event cinemas Marion last night, was seeing the Thor movie with his partner 👍
Did the bucket of popcorn slip through his hands?

From your observations did McAsey try to compete and contest or did he just turn up and prod around? How can a player drafted at pick 6 be our worst player week in week out playing in our SANFL team over the last couple of seasons? It definitely sounds like he’s given up & checked out, unless there’s other underlining issues!
More prod around.
The whole team picked up on the third quarter, but McAsey took a pretty easy mark 30 out directly on front and kicked out of bounds.

Gollant looked really dangerous that quarter, had a good running goal and missed two other shots could have turned the game around.

Based on what you saw... is McAsey fully fit?
I often wonder about this, as he had such great years in U18s and was widely regarded as a top prospect. Wonder if his body hasn't held up well to first few seasons of AFL standard training. Might be like a young Pat Cummins... just needs more time. But attitude/effort/application would all need to be A+ and internally there would be support for him.

He is too old for where we are at. A young mobile ruck who can kick would be nice.
We're either looking at Thilthorpe, or someone we draft/trade in within the next two off-seasons here

I don't mind keeping ROB as our ruck until the end of 2024, given we're likely to be a bottom few side until then anyway

A 3rd is pointless, add him to another pick to move up the order. Unless it can be used to give Lions best deal for their first.

Hard to tell, but he's a big guy, maybe he grew too quick?

Here’s the facts so everyone can make an informed decision.

Sam Draper and Reilly O'Brien AFL Stats Comparison

I still think we need to trade for him at the earliest opportunity. He’s just starting to come into his own and has far more upside than ROB
