I'd at least ask for a 2nd back.. minimum.
I'd try the other way, if it had to involve our 1st this year, our 4 and our 2nd for Rankine and their 1st. Somehow try and keep a pick high enough to be in the game for Phillipou or one of the other high projecting mids. Not fussed then if we lost our 2nd as we hopefully trade out one or 2 players for points for a Michalanney bid

I'd happily wager (if I bet) on this not happening ......surely you can see it's starting to come together, yes in patch's

But this team doesn't give in .....add another 4 Quality players next year .....I can't wait , just depends on our trading & drafting this year

Milera, Rachelle, Cook, Pedlar will be much better ....maybe Seedsman ....plus trade-ins

A lot of posters said the exact same thing about this year, just go peruse the pre season prediction thread and see how many had us rising up the ladder, and yet here we are, more than likely to finish with less wins than last year. All while arguably having the healthiest list in the AFL.

I was one of those .....I also prefaced my comments, as long as we don't have injuries to senior players, as we have no depth, just youth

Sloane & Seedsman big outs .....Crouch a dud .....Milera's comeback underwhelming

Yet, our performances ....our competitiveness, is much better than last year

But there will be those that judge performance purely on wins & losses .....in developing teams, that's unrealistic .....however 4th year in, next year, we should be banging on the door of the 8

Healthiest list is an outlier? Seedsman has been out for the entire season, Sloane for nearly all season, and it would have been better if Crouch was injured for nearly all season, same goes for Brown and Smith has been extremely inconsistent so it would have been better if he was injured for most of the season. So 5 experience players has been "injured" for all or most of the season and we did had injuries to Thilthorpe, Rachele and McAdams.

For 800K he needs to be a present champion of the game.

Very very rarely do you get a chance to trade a star in - generally you have to draft them and hold on to them. To trade one in you are at least paying $100k extra to move them. $800k is a stretch - I would hope we could get him for $700k but given we should be able to front end some if that’s what it took… same with JHF

If it's just pick 4 and nothing coming back then I would consider that a hard pass and $800K looks like $50-100K over so neither here or there.

$50-$100k, why quibble over that when the salary cap is $14 million - while we have some good players emerging I don’t see a heap of guys that will require big coin

Sloane was not a big out, many including myself were calling for him to be dropped prior to the injury. I agree that if we had of nailed our picks at the draft we would start to see some real improvement next year. But we haven’t, so we won’t.

To be fair on Milera, he had to play himself back into form after two years without footy. The way he plays relies a lot on his ability to move around the ground and strength. The Carlton game was his best game in a very long time.

He did look a lot better playing at HF against Richmond before he did his ACL.

If you’re ever going to overpay for a player it’s now when you’ve got such a young list and Tex and Sloane both on big money about to go.

Front load the **** out of Rankines contract so when our younger players start commanding more money we will have burnt through a chunk of Rankines contract.

Posters squabble over players contracts as if it’s their own money, it’s not and you’ve got to pay to get players to come to Adelaide, that’s just reality. We could decide not to pay and just sit ideally by whilst other clubs improve their lists.

Rankine is only young and has already gone through his shit development years, we will have him at his best for 8-10 years.

If he wants to come you do the deal.

Rankine will walk into our club and be a top 6 player. We would be insane not to bank on this kid being a genuine star for a very long time. Got to pay the money.
