Seriously though... it's Rd 21, Stuart Dew was extended a month ago and Rankine still hasn't signed on. Despite the Gold Coast article on AFL.com.au 5 days ago saying they're still confident he'll sign on... the Suns can't be that confident! The only way they'd be confident is if he's committed in principle and they're just trying to make the money work and it's within 50-100K.
Otherwise, he wants out.

Crows likely to have draft picks 4, 22, 40, 76 - is there any precedence out there on what they'd have to give up to get Rankine?
Would/Could we get him for just Pick4 or is that blatantly unders?
We're likely to finish with #7 (after father/son) ....that's the likely price

Unless GC gambles on our 2023 1st round pick ??

Should a Rankine trade occur ...it would elevate our push / need for a Hopper type trade

4 is big overs
yep - we need to quarantine that pick for hopefully Phillipou and maybe try and bundle 2nd rounders from this year and next to get a 1st for Rankine (Could we trade out a couple of players to generate that extra 2nd this year to bundle with our for Brisbane's 1st maybe?)

I must admit IF he chooses us AND we can get away with still having our 2022 1st for the draft and late picks for a michalanney bid and maintain our presence in the 1st round next year, the recruiters would have done a stellar job

It is “interesting” that the posters who constantly rant and rave that we should be playing Newchurch in the AFL have NEVER seen him play in the flesh.

I can’t recall a single poster who regularly turns up to watch our Twos who believed he should have been played in the AFL earlier in the season and has been crucified.

Tariek is like Cook and Nankervis (and I have been a fan of all three) in that he shows flashes of brilliance but he is not a top level SANFL players. There has been far less BigFooty noise about Taylor (and Soligo earlier in the season). They are just quality footballers who know how to get the footy.
I can't believe is a small city like ADEL .....no-one from the board can get to training & provide training reports

Most other Club Boards have a few track watchers ......COLL board has a prolific poster who posts training video's

Pass then, would want a midfielder with our first this year than a primary small forward two years in a row

Are you saying if we trade for Rankine we have to trade for Hopper,

Pick 15-20 is fair for Rankine. There's no way we are giving up pick 5-7. I would look at trading someone like Doedee for a first and hand that over to the Suns. Use pick 5-7 in the draft and offer up our 2023 first for Hopper. Nail our draft pick and that's a pretty good injection of talent.

With the Rankine trade - if Rankine is set on leaving and won't sign a contract, GC either accept an offer and get something or they don't and get nothing, correct? Since he can just walk to the draft and get picked up by North or whoever.

I think Rankine is definitely worth a high draft pick - he was pick 3 and unlike a draft scenario we know he's not going to be a total bust as he's already an effective AFL footballer. In practice it's hard to evaluate though, a pick swap or a 2nd round pick seems to clearly be very cheap but can't see GC having much negotiating power. First round pick seems accurate but there's no reason for any club to go that high.

Don't have to .....but I don't think you'll find anyone disagreeing with us having a need for a big midfielder .....if the Draft Option is removed, then trading for that need becomes elevated in importance

The crows will go all out to win and salvage reputations in the remaining games.

Meanwhile Port will do the smart thing and lose all remaining games whilst playing all.the kids to finish below us and get the better draft pick and lock up Rankine for free in the PSD.

I think a swap of 1st round picks might be part of the deal to get Rankine if it's on.

Thought about that ....however if we win another 2 -3 games, there might only be a couple of spots difference, in the Draft Order with GC

There's no way Rankine would reach the psd. Rankine will decide where he wants to play. If it's us powaa have nothing to do with it.

Rankine is a Mid, in the mould of Shai Bolton .....I'd move heaven & earth to get Rankine

Start with what we paid for Dawson, then subtract a bit off that. That's what Rankine's worth.

The precedent is Martin who went to Carlton. Very similar player and we're in a very similar position.

Gold Coast wanted pick 9.

Carlton wanted to give up 2 2nd Round picks.

He ended up going to pre-season draft.
hahahahah

If we end up with pick 6 say in the PSD, good luck.

North will be all over him like an absolute rash and they should have plenty of cash to burn like us

Do you think Izak will risk the PSD? - he either wants to stay or come to US or Port as per the 'report'. If we had pick 1 in the PSD- different story

Their supporters actually want Hayes to be selected and Rankine will get to nominate so eventually we will have to trade if he choose us.

Some comments on Newchurch from someone who also watches it (SANFL) a fair bit...
Surprising that the other watchers havent bothered to comment that a decrease in goals corresponds with a lot more time playing away from the forward line. At times he's on the wing. Other times he's been as far in defense as back pocket.
Also worth noting that earlier on this year, he was putting in some really good defensive efforts.
Its funny, when McAdam and he were both playing SANFL, their outputs werent that different. Food for thought. Do think his defensive efforts have dropped away a bit, not sure of the reason, could be instruction, could be complacency, could be something else.

The best thing about Newchurch is the improvement last year to this year. Like two different players. Huge improvement. If he does that again into next year, look out. I can remember the description that a club person had given to a poster on here of him in his year b4 drafting and haven't forgotten. Was a big call at the time. They look well on track to be vindcated.
his decrease in goals in the last three rounds has also corresponded with him being tagged to hell starting with the tigers game.

this has almost been the most refreshing thing about the lad as far as I am concerned as, although its resulted in him not kicking his own goals, he has still managed to have a direct hand in a hell of a lot of his team mates goals.

even though he’s been tagged out of his own game/goals he’s still been involved.

and it must also be said that in this three weeks he has also just missed out on kicking some goals so its not like his shots on goal have dried up altogether.

including one that an opposition player just got a fingertip to on the goal line that wouldve just about been goal of the year!.

More saying Rankine's value probably lies somewhere between pick 9 and 2 2nd Round picks!

port, kochie and ken cant afford to finish below us.. they will do everything in their power to make sure they dont.. it would be a disaster for their club to end up below us on the table this year. the tarps would need to be cleaned over summer and the sack hinkley posters would be plastered over the entire nortern suburbs of Adelaide.

I can see West Coast belting us this week anyway.. due to a few factors.. namely;

big win for us last weekend will see our boys a bit flat..
we never play well in perth..
WC aren’t anywhere near as bad as they were when we last met them..
they’ll wanna get up in a last game for a WC veteran..
and lastly, a win for them wont effect their draft position.

Okay, so if you assume we come 14th, and GC come 11th (I think we'll finish above Hawthorn, but below Essendon) - that puts something like this on the table (inc. Amon and McStay compo at end of 1st round):

Rankine + 8
for
5 + 25 + future 3rd

If we're giving up our own first, that's the maximum I'd go. Picks will obviously blow out to 6 and 9 with Ashcroft bid

Start with what we paid for Dawson, then subtract a bit off that. That's what Rankine's worth.
Yes I can respect that call. Not the worst measuring stick I've heard on this one.
So Dawson was traded for a Future 1st Rounder that was tied to Melbourne... so effectively 14-20 in the next draft.

As the ladder stands today, Crows have 4, 22, 40, and a 4th Rounder (58?)
The Suns are going to be something like 7th, 25, 26, early 30, 2 picks in 40s and more picks after that.

It'd be nice to get Rankine for Pick 22 and keep Pick 4 for Phillipou but I just don't see the Suns letting him go for Pick 22 when they've got a raft of picks in that range already.

Ideally... give the Suns pick 40 for Rankine and Swap 1st Rd picks with them as well. Phillipou slides to 7th in the Draft so we still get him. And there's still pick 22 and 58 to play with. If we've got Rankine & Phillipou then I think we should use 2 later picks to get some young SA tall timber in Harry Barnett or Isaac Keeler. Keep them playing SANFL and let them develop.
