As exciting as Buddy would be, the forward line isn’t the issue. It also wouldn’t solve the issue we already have of trying to fit in 2 ruckman with 3 other tall forwards. Unless the plan is for Joe to go back rucking next year once the shoulder improves, but I’m not sure he was doing that as much this year even when he was fully fit.

If Buddy really is chasing premierships and is willing to sign for unders allowing us to get another best 22 mid then I'd be all for it. Provides something a bit different to Hippy and Joe as Bud has made a living killing defenders on the lead, would be a nightmare for other teams to stop.

Interesting that the article suggests that we cant afford McStay, but we can afford Buddy?
Maybe contract length?

“Dan McStay is expected to depart the Lions at the end of the year, with Collingwood reported to be the likely destination and Brisbane unlikely to be able to match the offer put to the restricted free agent.”

I think 'unwilling' would be more accurate.

Unable or unwilling. Very different.

If Joe’s shoulder is fine next year there is no reason why he can’t play second ruck.

If buddy is in our forward line then we can afford to play Joe in the ruck.

By all accounts he enjoyed it last year, and tbh he was pretty good I thought

Maybe we trade for him and they let him go on compassionate grounds?

Yeah I mean it will be a short contract so we could probably offer them something that would be equivalent to the minimal compo they will get.

It wouldn’t quite be a free hit. Would impact the McStay compo wouldn’t it?

Genuine question, does the age of the free agent impact the potential loss of compo?

It can reduce the compo you get when an old player leaves you (maybe Jarrad Waite is the one I’m thinking of?) but assume it would remove any mcstay compo.

“Unable to” could also mean “don’t want to”. Whatever monster offer Collingwood are offering him is crazy. We offered him $600k for 5 years, which I thought was overs as well tbh.

Would much rather offer Bud 600-700 for 2 years, short term gain without killing our cap space for someone that honestly isn’t worth it.

It’s price and contract length I believe.

Buddy would be on a short contract.
