I like him as a KPD, better than both Gardiner and Payne IMO.
I’ll be honest if we had the choice between Hopper and Logue or Hopper and Buddy I’d probably take option 2 especially for the next couple seasons. I don’t think Logue is that much better than Payne, I do think Buddy is head and shoulders above whoever our 3rd tall next season would be.

Not sure if I am that cynical.

The talk on SEN a couple of weeks ago was that Buddy was "insulted" by what the Swans were offering and there was an impasse of sorts between he and the club

He's a proud man and I don't necessarily believe we are being leveraged. An extra 100K or even 50k is probably more about this self esteem than about the money itself.

Seems like if we did get Logue, we would almost be overstocked with defenders.

Short of delisting or trading (say) Gardner, where do we fit HA, Coleman, Amswerth, Adams, Payne as well as Wilmot and Rich?
Gardiner hasn’t signed past this year for us though which I find fascinating, so maybe he might be considering a trade at the end of the year back to Victoria.

No offence to buddy but by next year we'll have most probably zorko, lyons, deven (trade request), tom berry (trade request), matho, CEY, robinson and ely smith most probably leaving. That's a massive chunk of our midfield we need to recruit midfielders not another kpf even if we retain matho, berry and dev we still need to recruit another 4 mids as depth.

While I don’t know if Dev/Terry will leave, we do have people coming in. Ashcroft/Fletcher, + Ashcroft the younger remember. Matho won’t leave either, he’s a massive clubman and I wouldn’t be surprised if all he wanted was recognition for his efforts in the magoos (which he now has). Plus Prior obviously, The likes of Sharp and Tunstill have shown they have promise. We’ve also got Blake Coleman, who by all accounts I’d as good as kiddy, so if that eventuates could always move starce to the middle and have two Coleman’s down back.

Plenty of options and talent coming through mate

Anything's possible.

No matter what, this year's trade period is shaping as one of the most interesting for years.

The combinations and permutations are almost endless.

He is only up against KPDs, so Adams, Payne, Andrews and Gardiner. I think we at least need the depth in key position stocks. No surety that Payne makes it as a key defender just yet and I'm a tad worried about Gardiner's, Adams's longevity. + if some scuttlebutt around re Harris's knees are true we could be in real trouble.

I can understand if we had to delist/trade T.Berry at the end of the year, but we surely wouldn’t let Robertson get traded at the end of season unless he receives an insane offer to come back home to WA and ply his trade over there.

As stated before with him, if Robertson has an excellent or even great preseason next year and Lyons form continues to stagnate or he gets injured during that period, Robertson would easily replace Lyons spot in our AFL side in a quick heartbeat IMO.

kane cornes has declared buddy is not in the best 200 players in the comp anymore. do we really want somebody like this at our fine establishment? /s

i hope dev not being named this week on extended bench isnt a sign hes requesting a trade home

I'm not for Buddy because at his age and with his injury history I just don't think it's worth the risk playing wise. For marketing and excitement factor I guess I could see the reasoning.

With Ashcroft committing psychologically it changes our outlook . Maybe we get rid of a few of the old crew and start focusing on bringing in more youth. That's the way I'd be going. We've still got a strong core group of mid twenties players to see us through as we strengthen the list for the next 5-8 years.

this was my thinking when the going train of thought was that neale would be departing

im still kind of for it, i think we jumped a bit too early into the premiership window when we got neale and JL and another 1-2 solid draft hands would have seen us in good stead

i just really dont want to lose dev because we're clinging onto mathieson and JL who IMO wont be apart of our next premiership team unless they can reinvent themselves outside of being slow inside mids

Things will be a lot clearer when the season's over and we take a good hard look at how we've done and who we need going forward.

Potentially we could be saying sayonara to quite a few players this year.

I disagree with a lot of what you say but on this I am with you.

There is a "sameness" about the team we put out every week but if we don't get to at least a Prelim this season, a rethink of the playing personnel is a near certainty.

Even if we do go that far, a poor loss in a big Final will demand the same response.
