Degoey will be at the Pies next year I reckon, they’ll sort it out.

Behavioural clauses are so subjective, the only way it could work is ‘if you are charged with a criminal offense’ - how on earth would the decide what action triggers the clause?

Wouldn’t it just force Collingwood to trade DeGoey so they get McStay for nothing
I don’t believe that’s the concern.

If De Goey left, Collingwood would be eligible to free agency compensation, most likely band 1 compensation, so pick 17.

Bringing McStay in as a free agent would dilute that compensation. I don’t know to what level.

So the question is, what is De Goey worth in a trade, and could Collingwood get more back in a trade.

Or Would Collingwood prefer to trade for McStay, to keep their De Goey compensation intact.

If it was me I would prefer that to read 'convicted of a criminal offense' rather than just 'charged' and even then I would want to be sure 'criminal offense' doesn't include speeding etc!

Rumour Heard Darcy Gardiner might be gone salary cap and draft picks. Would have thought we would have the deal done by now if he was staying.

Only issue I can foresee for Collingwood is that it means they match the contract that St Kilda offered, likely similar money sans clauses, which De Goey may just accept (he needs to reject for Collingwood to force a trade).

I will now consult our resident free agency nerd dlanod.

Do clubs have to match the years and $$$, or do they have the match the contract exactly?

It always annoys me that Collingwood supporters have the gall to criticise our premierships when we had the benefit of a retention allowance when everyone knew that there were a whole heap of these deals going on with their players. Common knowledge that the taxable income of the Collingwood players of that era were much higher than they were under the cap.
Not to mention their players got stay in their own beds for most of the season as all Vic clubs do. Interstate teams in that era were literally away from home 50% of the season ( well Sydney and Brisbane )

Michael Warner from the AGE Reporting DeGoey doesn’t like that Collingwood Put behaviour issues in his contract
I think that gives a bit more insight into DeGoey. He clearly doesn't have the mental capacity to keep his nose clean and further more doesn't want too....
This guy has amazing talent but the IQ of a brick....if he just had an element of self control his earning power could be unlimited......bloody spoon.

Surely it doesn’t get to that point, they might as well just take the behavioural clauses out right now if they’re going to match the Saints offer. Part of me thinks they don’t actually want to keep him though and are just angling for the right approach.

In my dreams we could get hold of De Goey.

He's redeemable and an immense talent.

St Kilda love throwing money at players like that and then having no infrastructure to rehabilitate them.

The Pies are desperate for SC relief. That's cool get rid of your second best player.
